On the topic of exhaust, do most GTCS owners restore to original factory configuration, or do some of you upgrade to larger diameter pipes, higher performance mufflers and true dual exhaust?
And if so, is there a preferred brand name/type?

I went with flowmaster exhaust 40 series on mine, it has a sweet hot rod sound. Bluto ;D

Did you use the original 40 series, or the delta flow 40 series, or the new super 40 series?
And what size of tubing did you use? H-pipe?
But most of all, are you happy with it? ;D

When we did our resto, we used stock dual exhust and put the rear valance for duals on. We bought the kit right off of ebay from a guy that offers the exhaust kits at about $150. Includes the H pipe. We have the long tube headers on our 289 that has been sweetened. The mufflers are the standard turbo s that sound nice but not real loud. You can see ours on our gallery shots.

I'm going with deltaflow 40's and I think I'm going 2 1/4 on the pipe. Haven't met up with the master yet but I should be in the next week or so to hammer out the exact details.

I went with Flowmaster 40's, 2.5" pipe (or was it 2.25"?), dual exhaust and Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers, but only because I'm concerned about the environment and I think I'll get better mileage with this setup. ;D I did save the original manifolds and rear valance in case I decide I don't like the sound of raw power and want to blend in a little better.

I originally went with super hooker competition long tube headers to a 2.25" piping, no h or x pipe, and then 13" 2 channel flowmasters then having the exhaust go up over the axles out the back of the car. This exhaust was really loud.

I went to talk to an exhaust specialist. He ended up building me a custom x pipe "double cross over" i have a picture in my gallery. All the piping after the headers was 2.5" piping and we changed the mufflers to magnaflow mufflers which flow twice as much cfm, but are surprisingly a little quiter. The exhaust ends before the axles now.

The difference of just this exhaust system alone was 7 wheel horsepower and 9ft-lbs. torque to the wheels.

For the person interested in building an exhaust system for their mustang, i would recommend magnaflow mufflers over flowmasters. As far as 2.25 or 2.5" pipes, it really depends on how much horsepower you are making, in my case im making 400 horsepower so i needed the extra diameter, im not sure if you would want 2.5" pipes on a stock 289. But i will say that the magnaflow mufflers are a little nicer because they are a little quieter than the flowmasters.

I like the setup you mentioned (2.25" - 2.5"), H or X pipe is good, and I've heard a lot of good things about Magnaflow. I also heard that FM has the original 40 series, super 40, and the delta-flow 40 (the order denotes loud to less loud).
Are Magnaflows "long-lasting" (filler material burning out, or rusting out) and how's their pricing?

Im not really sure if magnaflows are "long lasting" i've only had them on my car for a few months. I would assume they are just as long lasting as flowmasters...I paid about 250 for both mufflers.
