View Full Version : Hey What's Up!
Mustang68Mx 06/14/2006, 09:43 PM Hello everyone, I've been a member of this forum for about a month and I never posted as you obviusly noticed. But let me introduce myself, I'm John Albert, I live in Mexico but I own a 68 mustang Sprint and I always loved the GT/CS thats why I come here almost every day to check the new cars and information.
Here in Mexico I'm a member of one of the most prestigous club named "Guadalajara Automóvil Club" and I sometimes go to a Mustang Club(But there they all are new generation cars) and the other one is dedicated to the old school, they restore all kind of cars, Packards, Cadillacs, Mercury 40,50, some 30's. And also we got the guys of the Muscle times( I include myself in here) and we always have fun with corvettes, chevelle, mustangs all kind of cars(Running, showing the cars, etc) as I mentioned before.
I go several times a year to the U.S. for shopping and I always try to go to the Swap Meets since I was a little boy, now I'm 19 years old.. and in my family there was always the tradition of taking care of the cars as well as restore them. In my house we got a Dodge Coronet 51, a 72 Deluxe Impala and my 68 sprint Mustang I still restoring for car shows( as much original as I can). I have other members of the family with some stangs, Boss 302, 2+2, 66 Convertibles and some other cars.
Well thats something about myself and now let me tell that I like the GT/CS so much and I'm glad to talk to people that have much more love to that cars, People that I might learn a lot. Thx for you time and I hope that I could help if it is needed some day.
I'll try to post some pictures of the Events and Cars of the family. See you all and congratulations for you nice cars

Mustang68Mx 06/14/2006, 11:07 PM Thx for the welcome, and be sure I'll be posting and I hope to get pictures soon of the Guadalajara clubs
still looking for one 06/15/2006, 06:46 AM Bienvenidos John
Glad to have you here!!!
I too don't yet have my 1968 GT/CS but am enjoying looking and learning.
For now, you can soon (August they say) get a nice model of the car, and you can order a nice T shirt (playera) of the GT CS, if you want to buy one, or look at pictures of one - check the messages (mensajes) here, to learn more.
I am glad to see there is such an interest in the American old cars in Mexico too. I understand there were some very interesting looking 1969 Mustang models that were ONLY available in Mexico, kind of like a Shelby fastback, have you seen these, in Guadalajara or the DF? Do you know of them?
I have traveled to Peru some time ago, and there is an active Mustang club in Lima, imaginate!!! They had a big Mustang show there in Lima, I think near Miraflores. I even saw a 1967 Mustang in Lima working as a TAXI and a private one (particular) in Arequipa, in the South of Peru. In Peru the old Mustang parts are hard to find so the people make them by hand.
I also got to enjoy some of the Latino rockers from Mexico and SA (in the 1990's) like Ricardo Arjona, Shakira, Alejandra Guzman, Los Nosequien y los Nosequantos (Peru), and Marcos Llunas (Espana) y otros:cheesy: :cheesy:
They are not so well so known up here to most English only speakers, but it was hoped that Ricky Martin, Shakira and Gloria Estefan will change that one of these days
I used to own the Ford Crown Victoria sedan, back in the 1980s and 1990s and I drove them into Mexico and had fun!!! The Crown Victoria was the "Cadillac" of Mexico....a real nice car for the Mexican highways. I drove one year all the way from Arizona to Guaymas, in Edo. de Sonora (near Sinaloa.) to Club Med, it was F U N:grin:  :icon_ecst Another time I went to Huatulco (Edo. de Oaxaco, but that was too far to drive...):icon_no: :icon_no: :icon_no:
Hasta la proxima vez,

Hi, about the cars, let me tell you that yes I know the "Shelby Mex" it is a very rare production of the 69 but in my opinion not as nice as the Fastback, that car is a HardTop with a fiberglass extension. If you can check the link, you will se pictures of a Mustang Club Pro in the D.F. http://www.clubmustangpro.com.mx/shelbymex.htm (They don't have nice cars but the shelbymex can be seen easily
And I live in Guadalajara, Jalisco. I was born in here but all my family is from europe
Mustanger 06/15/2006, 08:26 AM Here's a link I have posted before on the Mexican Shelbys:

Interesting history ...
Mustanger 06/15/2006, 08:30 AM ... from the article I posted:
"Interestingly, the 169 cars built in 1967, and the 203 units built in 1968 resembled "California Specials" in appearance."
... kinda cool ...

Yes, that is EAXACTLY the car I had in mind, the 1969 Mexican Shelby Mustang.
Nothing like that was ever seen in the USA

No, it is a very rare car but I don't like that much to buy one. I rather the Shelby 68 GT 500 KR  or a 65 or a GT/CS ... I'm hoping to finish my car almost in the end of the year cause I'm saving for a FB project or a GT/CS project

... there was a '69 Mexican Shelby for sale in Pico Rivera (Los Angeles County) last year. I think they were asking $35k ...

Very nice price for it, but I think that is an ugly car, when you physically see one of those, they are pretty aweful, I had the chance to look at it inside and it looks horrible.... the Fastback conversion it is discusting

I basically agree with you, the original classic '68 California Special has a timeless appeal, that can't be duplicated.
The Shelby Mex reminds me of the 1968 American Motors AMX Javelin to tell you the truth

Hahahahahahaha the truth hurts? no, I think it is a unique car for special reasons they had to create it. It has been ran in several races and it went pretty good for it, it has to have the mustang blood into the engine  but the appeal as you said of the normal mustangs or the Fastback, it is amazing, my uncle has Boss 302 and I would never trade that car for it, eventhough they are uneven and made in different years but still the Body type it is what I try to say...
