If I wanted to lets say put a four barrel carb in I would have to get a new intake manifold too right? If I did that would my cars price go down? even if I kept the old parts and put them back in if I would ever have to... :-X sell my pride and joy :'(

BrandonB,
modify your car like you want to. You are wise though to keep the original parts. When it comes time to sell your car, I know we don't like to talk about that day, but you can leave the modified pieces on the car but just make sure you say that you still have the original parts and they go with the car.
Doug

And yes you do need a different intake if you change to a 4 barrel

BrandonB,
most mustang shops have them, you can also pick them up at swap meets. Also look on ebay.

BrandonB,
its not what you are looking for, but it means an intake that uses 3 two barrel carbs, or 2 four barrel carbs.

Brandon,

I am going to make the same mods to my car. The parts being used will be period correct for 1968. Tri Y headers, FORD 4 bbl carb, I have a 1969 over the counter FORD dealer SHELBY intake. Even though these parts weren't on the car when it was built, they are mods that someone could have made when the car was new. To get the basics about this car stuff go to a book store and get 'Auto Mechanics Fundamentals' by Martin W. and Martin T. Stockel. For more model specific information get a good 1968 shop manual, or the original factory assembly manuals, I got the assembly manuals at a swap meet. Good Luck.

Ive got 2 Chiltons books. a Chilton's Mustang, cougar 1965-73 repair and tune-up guide. then a Chilton'sauto repair manual 1974 (american cars from 1967 to 1974). those good enough?

IMHO; the Chilton stuff is worthless for the most part. Get yourself a factory manual also go to your local bookstore, find the transporation section and you will find a wealth of information on Ford small block performance mods. Buy the one that works best for you. Both will be a good addition to your personal library. Also look through one of the more popular Mustang mags, they have ads from the larger part vendors. I recommend purchasing NEW parts when doing engine mods if you are a novice, you don't want to purchase someone elses junk. Or have someone who knows thier stuff, have them inspect the used parts first.
Good luck

Brandon,

The books you have should be good enough. What book ~mustang~ is talking about explains the engine and fundamentals where your books show you how to do the job.

An intake and carb swap is not difficult, you must make sure you don't have any leaks when you finish!

Hey does this sound good to you?

-1965-1973 4-bbl models concours carburetor. -

-Remanufactured concours carburetor is completely disassembled, all pieces are polished, reassembled, and correctly calibrated to your application and plated as it originally left the factory. Throttle shafts are rebushed if required. Please include the following information: Year, model, engine, transmission type and whether your car is equipped with or without A/C.-

or is that still the wrong item?

Sorry for spamming but is this the intake manifold that I would need?

-Weiand Hi-Ram intake manifold has a rpm power band from 2,500-7,000. 1x4-bbl carb set up with square carb flange and large plenum design. Will not clear stock electronic ignition. The carb linkage must be fabricated. Use with 750-850 Holley HP series carbs.-

BrandonB,
the high rise will not work unless you intend to cut a hole in your hood. The carb you mention should work. I agree with bish that you should stay away from Chiltons and buy you stuff from a good store.

By the way if I put a 4 barrel carb into it, and even though I can always put the 2 barrel back in will my cars value decrease??

bish

Value is in the eye of the beholder.
You may add your mods, it may catch someones eye and they may offer you more than the car is worth.
On the other hand, it will turn off people who like the factory look.
Keep in mind that you have a rare car, just don't do anything that can't be put back the way it was, keep all of your parts.
It's your car afterall, have fun with it!

Just got back from tlaking to parts dealers...I change my mind on moding it. Lucy is gonna stay stock and I'm glad it would have been a lot of money and work...and I'm not fully willing to do the mods to her due to originality so if you dont like something 100% dont do it ya know?

thanks for helping me though you guys
