View Full Version : Change of Color for GT/CS Diecast
68gt390 08/04/2006, 01:10 PM I was informed today by Greenlight that the Royal Maroon GT/CS diecast will not be offered due to no interest in pre-orders. Color will be changed to Wimbledon White with black stripe. The Acapulco Blue GT/CS will still be offered. What a bummer. Thought I'd keep everyone informed of what's going on with the diecast model.

Mustanger 08/04/2006, 01:21 PM That's too bad, especially since they modeled it based on your car, which is maroon!! I would have ordered one ... you know, we (website members) haven't expressed to Greenlight as a group what we want, should we start organizing a purchase, Don?
BroadwayBlue 08/04/2006, 01:23 PM That sucks Don! You went through so much trouble they could at least make a few for you.
I was going to order one in addition to a few blue.
joedls 08/04/2006, 01:52 PM That really sucks, Don. But I gotta say, I'm not unhappy about the Wimbledon White choice.
GTCSMustang 08/04/2006, 02:44 PM Don,
What sort of pre-order numbers are they looking for to justify the color? Maybe we could come up with enough through this website. If they'd get off their ass and make a few, maybe they'd sell them.
Scott
dotbomb 08/04/2006, 02:58 PM I think we all need one of every color! Oh and excuse my noobish tendencies for asking... is it too late to get in on the group buy?

I would buy at least one in Maroon.
PNewitt 08/04/2006, 04:43 PM No Maroon?
That sure tweaks MY day!
hmmm...well, it looks like I'll have to show how to take one apart and paint it to whatever color you want. Then, I'll also have to make up some stripe stickers in all four colors, too.
Well, I STILL love maroon! It's good enough for a book cover!

Absolutely Paul!
Mosesatm 08/04/2006, 06:04 PM There is a guy on eBay that sells scale model GT/CS stripes. I'll try to find the information.
Bummer. Given that my GT/CS is red I would have liked a Maroon one as well...
gtcs1 08/04/2006, 08:54 PM You can see progress made on the Acapulco Blue model at the following web site. They quote a date of november for availability.

68gt390 08/05/2006, 06:10 AM I kinda wonder what's up with the "white wall" tires. I think the cars look much better with "white letter's" myself. What do I know, I just own the car. At least they are giving me the first proto-type which just happens to be "Royal Maroon". That's cool, it will be the only one made so down the road it will be worth a few more pennies. I'm just happy they are still making the model regardless of how long it's taken.
As for those concerned about the group buy that hasn't been done yet. They still don't have all the information put together yet for Jon to post here on the site. I thought it rather strange about the fact no one from their company even bothered to ask us what we thought would be good color's. Go figure. Corporate America at work again.

What a beautiful Acapulco blue car, bummer on the Maroon. If you look close on the hood up full car shot it appears that the California Special script is placed on incorrect as has been discussed, I know we have several here including mine that are wrong. Don's, the base car is also wrong if I remember correct but I thought he had made it clear to them that it was wrong? Guess it will be a perfect match to mine.

Don
My car came originally with "white wall" tires as per the Marti report.
Are you are wondering why they have them on the model that is supposed to be exact to your car? Cuz I could see why you would be wondering about that. The "white letter" tires do look cool, but the "white walls" look vintage.

Those are most likely 1/24th scale. This version is 1:18th--which is larger.
I have the artwork already--it wouldn't be difficult for me to make them.

Mustanglvr 08/05/2006, 10:35 AM So how much will these models cost exactly?
rvrtrash 08/05/2006, 09:54 PM Color will be changed to Wimbledon White with black stripe.

All I need to do is get a set of red stripes from Paul N. and I'll be set!
Steve (on my second day of trying to get caught up with a month's worth of posts.)

I agree. White letters are better looking. More sports car like IMHO...

Not only does the script look wrong but, the air cleaner lid is on wrong also on both models. I have again touched base with them about the problems. Let's see if they fix them? Time will tell.
Don

Does anybody know?
I`m poor and have to think about these things, lol.

I asked about this earlier (scroll down to my 6/2/06 entry and see Don's reply) :
http://www.californiaspecial.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2594&page=3&highlight=models
Don indicated that we should get it cheaper than what it's offered to the regular public ...
Mustanglvr 08/07/2006, 09:23 AM Thank you Mustanger!
BroadwayBlue 08/08/2006, 08:40 PM Don,
Have you seen any of the painted versions in person.
The pictures make the paint look very "metallic" ... like it has a lot of "flake" in it.
Curious to know if the cars will actually look like that or if it's the pictures making it look that way.
Thanks!
Rich

I was thinking the exact same thing. If the blue is that heavy w/ metallic I'll probably get the white version.

Rich;
The sample they sent me of the Royal Maroon has no metallic flake in it at all. Since they've done away with the Royal Maroon and since I've not seen the Blue version don't really know. I would assume it's the lighting on the picture that may be effecting it.
Don
Sarge 08/10/2006, 08:24 PM Wow. That is too bad Don. Like others have replied, maybe we can get in a group purchase, and push the Royal Maroon up? I would be willing to buy one just to get it out there? I love the contrast of the color and the stripe!

Robert;
At this point I'm rather disenchanted with Greenlight. I've bent over backwards to try and get this thing off the ground. Furnished them with both my cars, sent countless emails and photo's even sent them listings that both myself and Paul noticed were problems with the model. Seems that now that they have what they want it's time to do it their way. They've been draging their feet. The Group buy still hasn't been completed. At first they made mention it was to ensure accuracy of the model but, after seeing the current photo's and seeing the problems I wonder. There's still problems. Go figure.
Either way I'm at least glad their still going to offer the model.
Don
68gt390 08/14/2006, 06:57 AM I received a reply from Greenlight this past weekend with photo's in regards to the script and tires on the CS diecast model. Script is correct and the diecast model will be offered with both raised white letters and white sidewall tires. Just waiting for correction of air cleaner lid and we should be set to go.
It still amazes me that their vendors are saying there is no interest in the Royal Maroon model. Seems every show I attend people are crazy over the color of my car. Go figure.
Don
BroadwayBlue 08/14/2006, 07:03 AM I agree Don!
When it comes time to repaint my car it's one of my top 3 choices
Acapulco Blue (which it is now)
Royal Maroon
Lime Gold (Original) - sorry Arlie I didn't do it, it was the guy before me!
