I have just recieved the GT/CS I purchased over 2 months ago. The car doesn't run atm and the brakes are sticking. Overall the whole car needs a fair bit of work, my question is speaking from experience with these kinds of restorations where should I start? getting the car running mechanically first? or should I start with something else?
regards
Think about it this way - you don't want to start making the car looking pretty, until you've done the dirty work. Dropped wrenches, banged hammers, and dirty clothing crawling all around your vehicle are going to be a sign of restoration.
I'd say, make a list of everything that needs to be done. This way, you dont put something back together to find later that you are taking it apart for another project.
Usually you want to get the car restored mechanically first, get the brakes working, the car running, and all the lines, hoses, belts, wires, etc. all fixed and perfected.
From there, you'll want to move onto the other restoration, interior heater components, wiring, lighting, etc. etc. Once you've done the brute work, you'll probably want to start making it pretty from the inside out.
Goodluck!

champs, get the car running and have fun with it. My CS needed brakes, PS repair, gas tank, and a new carb. That was just prior to a frame off resto. But it was fun driving it for 2 summers before tearing it apart.

::) You can see a picture of my car on page four in the gallery. The picture is when I got it out of the barn. After three years it was almost finished and the voltage regulator went hay wire so I got to start over again. :'(
