Pardon my ingnorance if this is common sense but I have a couple questions for the members of the forum.
I understand that the "C" code HCS is not classified as a true GT. Is this correct? Does the same hold true for the Cal Special? Were all options available for the HCS engine, i.e. cobra dress-up kit, etc? I know that 99% of the GT / HCS did not have the GT gas cap. What about the GT center caps? Any other interesting facts to share?
Thanks in advance,

DSO51,
The C code or 289 is not classified as a true GT because in 68 you could not get the GT option with the 289 (you could in 67 both 2v and HP) and it holds true for the CS.
As for options, every option was available for the HCS except the "sprint" option. As for the Cobra dress up kit, I may be wrong but I believe that was a dealer option and not a Ford factory option.
And for GT gas caps, you are right there are only a few cars that have the GT gas cap and I do not know if they where ever confirmed that they are true CS's, maybe someone here can confirm that. And if you got the GT option, remember not on a 289, you got the center wheel caps with "GT" on them. If your car is a 289 and you ordered the chrome wheels, the center caps are plain.
And the actual GT wheels are not chrome but argent (silver) not chrome, you could order the chrome wheels as a replacement for the argent ones.
Remeber, the CS and HCS are only options available in '68, you could add any other option you wanted, other than the "Sprint" option. I hope that answers your questions.

Doug,
Much thanks. I thought as much but needed confirmation. I was not aware of the argent vs. the chrome rims - great info.
Thanks again,
