View Full Version : Questioning Adding a Hood Scoop?
Jenstang 05/20/2007, 06:46 AM Hello,
First of all I want to say thank you for making us 2007 GT/CS owners so welcome here as we've come on board. I bought mine last July when they first came out and am loving every moment of ownership. I keep pondering one question though and its whether to add the Ford hood scoop. I feel my hood needs something more, perhaps a different hood altogether.
The "GT Appearance package" is a separate package from the CS package that comes with a plenum cover and hood scoop. It did not come on mine, but I can add the OEM version fairly reasonably. Most of the 07s seem to have it and it looks really nice, I'm just so curious to get opinions from people with the 68's, and everyone, as to what they think of it vs. the non-hood scooped version or other thoughts as to what you might do with the hood area. I want to keep the spirit of the original GT/CS in any mods I do.
Thanks so much for any input you may have.
rvrtrash 05/20/2007, 07:20 AM Spirit or no spirit, if I was going to add a hood scoop, I'd put on the shaker one from a few years ago.
Steve
68 GTCS 05/20/2007, 10:35 AM I beleive that the 2007 prototype California Special had the hood scoop. If I ever purchase a 07-08 CS I would definitely add the scoop if it didn't already have one I think they look great. As far as a shaker scoop, that would be nice also, but remember it doesn't have to be functional, the side scoops on the 68 CS are non-functional also.
Good Luck!
Kevin
Jenstang 05/20/2007, 11:16 AM Yes, I think it was a little misleading that the prototype had the non-functional hood scoop, as everyone thinks the hood scoop is part of the CS package. Actually, only the side scoops are included in the CS package.
Thanks for your thoughts, please keep them coming.

I'm also considering the California Dream Ram Air Hood.
Mustanglvr 05/20/2007, 09:13 PM Hood scoops are great! Everybody should have hood scoops!

That's real similar to the prototype 2005 Mustang hood. I always thought Ford goofed up by not using that one on all their cars.

Mustanger 05/21/2007, 07:14 AM Although not cheap, I always thought the Shelby-Hertz hood looked cool ...

2007GTCS 05/21/2007, 12:18 PM Roush makes a good looking scoop. It's also available pre-painted.

Jenstang 05/21/2007, 08:48 PM Thanks all so much for your input. I went with the Ford hood scoop and ordered it today. I already got the plenum cover so now I'll have the whole "GT Appearance Package". Guess what put me over .....The darn diecast models of the 2007 GT/CS that are out now with the hood scoop on them, so that was the final straw. Now I can't wait to get it installed!
Jenstang 05/29/2007, 07:15 PM Ok, I received my hood scoop and install is scheduled for this Thursday. Why do I feel like I'm going in for surgery? Anyone want to talk me out of it? Do you think I'll be ok with visibility?

I say the hood scoop up close before I got mine. It is just too small, I was thinking about putting one on it, like the ones that came on the 04 GT Mustang like I also have also have. Here mine are nose to nose and see what I mean about the hood scoop, much better than that on the 07 GT/CS's
2007GTCS 05/31/2007, 11:18 PM I don't have any problems with visibility, but I'm 6' 4". I would think that as long as you can see over the steering wheel you won't have a problem...by the time something gets close enough to be obstructed by the hood scoop, it's too late!
andrewmp6 06/01/2007, 03:10 AM shaker hood scoop would be sweet the mach1 they brought back few years ago had one and i think the billet did not sure tho do some searching you might find a aftermarket shaker

Thanks! I was thinking about when I'm parking it though. Any problems there?
Jenstang 06/01/2007, 05:35 PM It's now installed and I'm really happy with it.
BroadwayBlue 06/01/2007, 05:59 PM Looks nice! I like it!
2007GTCS 06/01/2007, 11:11 PM Looks good! I don't have any problems parking mine, but your reference points are probably different than mine...good luck!
Casey 06/03/2007, 10:07 AM How much did it cost to get the scoop and have it installed?
Jenstang 06/04/2007, 04:30 AM Thanks!
The part was $210 off PartsCheap.com plus $13 shipping. Then to have it painted and installed at a local body shop was $200. Grand total of $423. BTW, although I didn't do a lot of price shopping on the install, I checked with two local Ford dealers and they would have wanted a lot more for each the part and the install. The local body shop had no problem matching the paint perfectly so a body shop is the way to go, plus they sent me home with a bottle of touch up paint.
BTW, the "GT Appearance package costs $475, so I did good. All I need now is the plenum cover to make it complete and they go for around $70.
Glad I kept it stock because it matches the side scoops perfectly. Seeing the scoop while driving doesn't bother me at all - took about 10 minutes to get used to seeing it and now I don't notice it.

I seen a shaker on the new body style a couples months back, It looked awsome. My buddy the ford guy says theres a kit for such an application.
That and the light/roll bar would be on my wish list if I hade a vert.
Jenstang 06/04/2007, 06:15 PM My husband likes the roll bar too, but it doesn't strike me at all. I want a more retro look.
hotrodgrany 06/07/2007, 04:08 PM Thanks!

You mean this:before and after on my 07 GT/CS
hotrodgrany 06/07/2007, 04:14 PM It's now installed and I'm really happy with it.
Ok, is it like that comes on some of the new GT/CS or what?

The hood scoop is a separate option from the CS package. Its part of another package called the "GT Appearance Package".

Thanks, but no thanks, that is why I ask the sales rep search for one with out hood scoop, saw close up when they first came out, not that impressed, and yes that is correct and they also came with the engine intake cover and as you can see I had it put on mine. It's your baby and you have a awsome one, and enjoy your as I do.

Yes, I did the combination of the hood scoop and the plenum cover = "GT Appearance Package"

Your ride will definately be more unique without one. And, the pictures I've found on this site of the original '68 GT/CS and parts list do not have the hood scoop, so I pictured many folks here would vote not to add it.
For me at first I was happy that the car I found didn't have one because I thought that would have been too much of a muscle look for me. Then, as I had the car for a while, I decided the hood needed something and I thought stripes?, diff hood? or scoop? I'd pretty much decided on the OEM scoop by the time I started this thread. I'm really happy that I think it helps the side scoops show up more, and adds more vista blue color to my vert.
Enjoy your awesome ride too!

Great price for pre-painted, is it the Ford scoop?
Z28ZL1 07/03/2007, 04:50 PM No, Xenon hood scoop. If you're looking to add body styling in the future,
search Atlanta Mustangs, they have a lot of stuff, i.e., side scoops, hood scoops, rear/front chin spoilers all prepainted and delivered to your door.
jk89cat 07/04/2007, 12:00 PM ok guys and girls, this is a very close issue to me. as i deal with the stuff on a regular basis, i am roush/motorsport/voretech dealer thru my dealership and run into this on a regular basis , i dont like the ford scoop as its too small for the hood. the roush sits better and looks more aggresive. i have sold 3 of the roush roll bar for the converatble and looks very nice installed. the engien cover if you use the frpp cross brace it will have to be removed as it will not clear the cover. the roush panels do come prepainted. and the cost is better than the ford. if you guys and girls want anything i sell motorsport/roush for jobber and oe ford for 10% over cost . my shop email is justin@sesslerford.com just metion where you saw me! justin
