Hi, I've recently got my car on the road and remember a problem with heat from the exhaust cooking my starters. I have headers ,and was thinking about putting the old exhast back. It is very restrictive but there is a K? car option of cast iron headers.Anyone know about whether our cars are K models? Has anyone used the cast headers ? Also is there a good essy to aplly wrap for the steering and starters? LOts of questions ,Thanks for the help........... Scotty

Here are a couple of threads that discuss the issue.

The threads above will give you good alternatives for the hot starter. Your question about the cast headers: they are a bolt on fit for your 289/302. But I believe you then must install a bracket to lower the P/S cylinder for clearance. Good Luck. (I've never believed in the necessity for headers for casual street driving: cost + other issues, such as hot starters, etc.) Stock performance is OK for me.
