Hey there I bought a mustang of of ebay a couple of months ago and now as i am taking it apart im noticing differences. It has lucas fog lamps a 67 grill factory hood pins with the brackets for them attached to the radiator support. It has coberly ford on the radiator support with a number 36 on the passenger shock tower. I ground off some bondo where side scoops would be and found 5 holes which look like they where filled with brass? The tail panes is like a regular 68 but i have two extra factory wires for rear bulbs. please help me i just had a baby and dont have alot but if i can prove it is a califronia special my wife just may let me keep it.

John,
Go to the VIN reports section of this site and get a Marti Auto Works report, just give him your VIN number and he can verify if it is a true CS. By the sounds of it, it may be one that had a rearend accident and however repaired it put it back to a regular 68 vice CS.

Well what is your VIN? I mean if its a GT/CS wont it start with 8R01C? I mean were no Martiworks but if hes got a VIN starting with that atleast he knows he should try otherwise if the VIN is different unless he chooses too he really wouldnt have to send money in you know?

my vin does start with 8RO1 and the DSO is los angeles this much i do know ive heard that coberly ford sold these cars and since the engine compartment had those markings and the car has the tell tale singns of the other equipment installed except it looks like the tailight panel was replace and the trunk lid is off a 67 as well as the end caps. all numbers match on this vehicle as well. the only changes have been one spark plug wire oil filter battery alternater and voltage regulater which i changed in order to drive it home when i purchased it . it made the drive from santa cruz california to portland oregon. I found it on ebay in june in the parts area. thanx for your help and ill post new info as i get it or find it I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!!!!!!!

You can also try getting a CAC report from Ford. It's a very simplified version of a VIN report, and sometimes not entirely accurate. But it is free! :) Click on the VIN REPORTS link to your left and scroll down just a bit for more info.
