Look right at the bottom of this page.
It looks like Jon has it turned on.
But most of the options are available to us through the toolbar options (color, size, bold, italic, url, ...), quote button, etc...
John has made it easy for us to use these features I think.

Yeah, those codes are there. You can either type the codes in manually or use the button icons right above the message window (much easier)

The buttons are somewhat limited in the "quick reply" (the one that comes up at the bottom of each post) but if you click "Go Advanced" you'll get a message window with a more complete set of buttons.
