Hi
I a'm new to this web site. I have had my Special for 14 years. The car was in pieces for most of those years. I was not sure about it's authentisity. I had it repainted this year. I didn't know about the Marti report or the Ford report untill I got on this site.
I ordered the Ford report and I ordered the Marti report hoping that my Special was real.
When the report came back it was real, nothing fancy, but it was built 13 days ahead of schedule June 20. Insted of July 03. The Ford report showed June 21. Ifound it strange that the car was prduced so far before the body tag indicated. I also contacted Ford again because the report did not identify the car as a Special. I called them and again asked them to look it up, They did and it came back as a California Mustang Promaotion at the time of manufacture. It has a 65 dso for Oklahoma City. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this. My consecutive unit number is 168338.

LEGR868,
As many here can atest to, the CAC report from Ford is not entirely correct or should I say detailed. That goes for the build date too. The date on your body tag was a estimate by Ford of when your car would come down the assembly line. My car for instance was build thirteen days behind scheduled because it is part of the first run of CS's. Evidently Ford was beginning to get ahead of schedule at the time of the construction. I can not say why there is a difference between CAC and the Marti report but again the CAC is often incorrect so I would definately go with the Marti Report.
My CAC also does not state "California Special" as an option, so don't be alarmed.
As for the DSO of OKC, you are one of the few from that DSO, OKC and Dallas had the fewest cars shipped there. I believe it was less than 15.
Good luck with your car

Dear Mr. L8GR868, you car is registered in Paul Newitt's GT/CS 1996 REGISTRY on page 74 (8R01C168338). Your car has quite a history. Look it up and see for yourself what has already been noted early in your cars life from another owner. Welcome to the site and hobby and hope you enjoy it as we all do. Bob Teets

Thank you for your replies. I registered my car in Pauls book. But at that time I did't know much about California Specials, other than what was on the car. Paul's booked has helped me in my restoration.
Thanks again.

Brandon,
It is only in the book, not online. Paul has talked about another update on the book in the future.

Hey Bob,
Any chance we might be able to publish anything on the HCS's? Again, I am willing to help with the $$$ if it's reasonable. I DO want a set of '66 badges but just haven't had the chance to call you. I'm finally back to work after my car accident and am working night shift now, so my cycle is all backasswards. I'll call you this weekend.
