With a group of people that appreciate the rare beauty of the California Special and High Country Special I keep thinking that there must be a VERY interesting car history to almost everyone on this site... Can I ask what are your favourite cars that you have owned and why.

To kick it off, here's mine:

1961 EK Holden Special Sedan: 138ci & hydramatic with spats! A benchseat and on honeymoon.

1975 XB Grand Sport Fairmont Coupe: 302ci, borg warner. Sounded fast at idle (but wasn't), great colours and super plush lounge chair seats.

1971 240Z Datsun: Bit silly but I do love it. Feels more "boy-racer" than the mustang despite being pitifully slow.

And last but best of all, the 68 California Special that brought me here.

PS - please post photos.

Here are a few from the late '70s.

Drove my father's '72 GMC until I bought the '50 Buick, then the GT/CS.

Great topic!

First Mustang was 1966 coupe, regretfully sold it in 1999 to pay for bathroom remodel. Had 67K original miles. Ran as perfect as the day she was born. Sold her to a guy who took her to Norway with a '66 T-Bird. Second is the 2008 GT/CS purchased 9/07. Third is the 1968 GT/CS purchased 8/08.

A long list ...

Wow, this will be a fairly big list, so here we go:
First "car" was a .47 Mercury Pickup that had been "flat decked with stake sides" with a flathead V8 and a 3 speed "crash box". (I'd have to find some old 35mm slides and scan them for photos of this one and a few of the others to follow ...)
A 62 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup with a "slant six" and a "3 on the tree".
First Mustang was a 66 coupe in blue with a blue and white deluxe "Pony" interior and lower console. 289 2V with an automatic. Lost control of it on a patch of black ice one morning and I totalled it after slamming into the base of a huge tree and then sliding down into about 3 feet of running water in a nearby creek. (Very cold water in that creek by the way ....)
A 66 Falcon Sports Coupe, a "red racer", 289 4V and a 4 speed. (Cragars in front and steel rims in back of course ...)
A 66 Mercury Cyclone, red with black interior, with a 390 4V and 4 speed. Again, more Cragars, they were the wheel of the day back then. This car was hard on tires too ... but a lot of fun!
A '75 Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser 4X4, a 72 Ford F100 in blue, a '70 (?) Ford Econoline van in green and white (with a 302 4V with an auto), a '68 Falcon Coupe in an off green colour, just a "driver" with an inline 6 and an automatic.
Then came the '65 Mustang Fastback ("C" code 289 4V 4 speed), very sadly still sitting in a million pieces, but soon to be finished!
A '92 Chevy "Getaway" Camper Van, and an '89 Dodge Dakota 4X4 pickup as the current day to day "driver" and our spring and summer RV, and then finally ...
Our '68 Mustang GT/CS "S" code 390 4V 4 speed "wedding car" ... Candy Apple Red with black interior (a work in progress, but at least it's running and on the road!)
