C4/C6 to 5 Speed Auto Conversion?

Hi all,

Has anyone here done a swap-out of their vintage CS C4/C6 to a modern 5 speed Auto drivetrain? Who makes a kit?

I saw an article in the latest MM that describes something a little different than what I'm asking- Converting an Automatic to 5 speed manual. This seems like a lot more to do, especially with adding the clutch pedal and making it work with an Auto center console.

Thanks, Jeff

I am not sure how you would make it work with the auto console.

I did a 3 speed stick to 5 speed conversion on my 1968 Cougar XR7.

There are several different ways to do the conversion.

I chose the cable clutch and basically all the rest 1991 Mustang GT. Had to get a custom 157 tooth flywheel with the 28 oz. balance.

Mustang Steve for the cable conversion.

Rueben, CougarCJ,

Thanks for the links and suggestions.

With regard to the console. I think that at the very least you could "lock out" the 1 and 2. Leaving the bottom most selection at Drive.

The links to various articles discuss either AOD or conversion to a stick shift manual.

I'm still searching for info on a modern Tremec 5 speed Automatic (like what's in the new gen Mustangs) transmission swap with the C4.

Maybe the combo just doesn't work?

Perhaps since the shifting on a modern 5 speed auto is computer controlled, it's too much trouble to configure (maybe too much apples and oranges... vacuum controlled shifting vs. computer controlled shifting...wheel/engine speed sensors, etc?).

Thanks, Jeff
