Air shocks and shackles? I foresee suspension o'haul. (If the rear end is tweaked up, chances are the front suspension will also need re-doing.)

Other than the vin, I don't see any indication of a vehicle sequence number on my Marti. How does this person know what number his build was?

Important dates, including build dates, are found in the Deluxe Marti's.

But none of that will tell you a build number, as he has quoted in his ad.

The build number is probably in the original window sticker and possibly the original purchase contract. The ad says they have the original purchase contract.

I have the Elite Marti report for my car which includes a copy of the window sticker. There is no mention of a build number. I also have the original bill of sale which has no build number. Not sure if that is what you mean by "original purchase contract".

I am pretty sure that there is no way to determine how many Cal Specials were built before or after a particular car. The Marti only tells how many were built with specific options not what order they were built in. The Eminger report from Ford doesn't include any info as well. I don't know where the seller is getting their info from.

Cheers,

Ron

I wonder if the 968 is a typo as further down he states that this is the 949 consecutive number produced (base on the last 3 of the VIN)

I have done all types of math and cannot see how he derives at the 968 figure,

-I say typo of his 949

I saw that and wondered the same thing. People do sometimes make the assumption that the vin = order of build.

no answer..but was wondering if seller deduced 968 from his build date. He states "CA04/1968" so maybe he just dropped the 1 and figured #968?

I spoke to the owner of this car (Vickie). She said that she bought it new in '68 and has babied it since then. When she replaced the seat covers and gauge cluster she kept the originals. She also kept the original wheels and hubcaps.

She also said that she is too short to see over the hood so she had air shocks installed many years ago. That's a new one on me!!! She also remembers the seat hinge recall.

I'm going to take a look at it Saturday in Clarkston, Washington. She spends her winters in Mesa, hence the 480 phone number, so her brother (Gene) is in charge of showing the car.

If it's as original as she says it may be a great time capsule for someone, or it may end up being just a worn out used car. This will be an interesting inspection!

Here are some photos from the Hemmings ad.

On a Boss 351 group I'm in, one of the members told me mine was the 265th Boss built, based on the VIN. The number 265 doesn't appear anywhere in my VIN and I asked him how he came up with that number. He told me he had access to Ford records but wouldn't elaborate. I suspect he possibly ordered a special report listing all the Boss serial numbers from Marti. The point is, maybe the seller does have a way of knowing where his falls in the sequence. Or maybe the other guy was just blowing smoke up my wazoo.
