We just purchased a 68 Mustang from the heirs of a deceased family member. Last tagged in Colorado years ago. It's been sitting in the elements for years. Trying to figure out what it is. They always said it's a CS, but trying to determine if that's correct

VIN 8R01J161972

Plate
65A D 2U 28E 75 7 1

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

It isn't in the registry but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Can you post some photos, or send them to moses1968@att.net?
It's in the GT/CS date range, the VIN starts with 8R01, and we have 8R01J161974 in the registry, so if I were a bettin' man I'd put some money on it being real.

8R01 J161972 / 65A = Std Bucket Seats / D = Acapulco Blue / 2U = Parchment Interior / 28E = May 28 / 75 = Phoenix Delivery / 7 = 3.25 Rear Gears / 1 = 3-Speed
8R01 J161974 / 65A = Std Bucket Seats / T = Candyapple Red / 2U = Parchment Interior / 28E = May 28 / 75 = Phoenix Delivery / 7 = 3.25 Rear Gears / 1 = 3-Speed
Ford liked to build cars with the same options in batches and J161974 is built exactly like yours, other than the exterior color. They didn't seem to care about exterior colors when batching cars.

Are you familiar with Marti Reports?

We ordered a Marti report and confirmed it is a GT/CS. We need to establish a value to fairly pay family members. Very poor condition. Needs a full body off restoration. Any directions is appreciated
