On December 26, 1967 Ford announced their intention on accepting orders for a limited number of Mustang Fastbacks equipped them with the 428 Cobra Jet. These cars could be ordered as DSO option 84-5660, or DSO option 84-5661 if the car is desired less sealer and deadners. The were all built in Dearborn and received the serial numbers 8F02R135007-056, and have become known as the 135 series cars.
Many of these cars were sold to racers to race in the Stock and Super Stock class. Some of these cars were further prepped by Holman, Moody, and Stroppe and used at the 1968 WinterNationals. Al Joniak won the Super Stock Eliminator at the WinterNations and Hubert Platt was the runner up. Some of the cars at Pomona may have also been a "117 cars."
The Carlisle All Ford Nationals in June will feature about 12 of the 50 cars produced.
