That could be part of the problem. Have you checked the dwell and replaced the condenser?

I prefer to use Pertronix Module & Coil. (Higher voltage, hotter spark)

I have not. They should be new but I am finding the shop that restored this car did cut corners a bit. It had the original coil on it and the like new tires were at least 28 years old. Next time I work on the car I will take a look under the cap.
