I have been hunting for a 68 Conv J code 4spd for 20 + years. Its basically a GT350 w/o the high rise and Holley. Only 800 or so were made. This particular car was purchased new by a man in Arizona. He drove it for 8 yrs before giving it to his son who was in the 11th grade. During the sons senior year he blew the motor. The father took it back and put it in storage in 1978 @70k orig miles - and told the son he would never drive it again. When the father died in 2004, the son got the car out of storage and took it to Michigan. The son sold the car to a couple in Michigan in 2005. It has sat in storage untouched until I purchased it in 2006. While restoring the motor it was discovered that the #1 had a hairline crack - common for overheating. It was bored to 30 over and the #1 was sleeved. Stock 1/4 time 15.5 @89 - awesome ride! Candy Apple Red / Red interior. All original body and top (duck tape and all).
August 08 - changing to OEM mild port matched Intake Heads and Exhaust. Bench flow 185 int. 145 exh. @ .500 lift. These heads can be opened to as much as 220/180 but this would require radical and $$ procedures to allow the intake and exhast manifolds handel those rates.
