Whats 68 HCS worth?

Hello. I've been goofing around with classic mustangs for years, (got 5 ponies in the barn) and I've gotten interested in the HCS'S, I like the unique style and rarity. But, before I ask my wife I need to know how much sucking up I'll have to do. I am particularly interested in a 428.

You know, I really don't know. High Countrty Bob on this is the man, but value is so subjective. They made only 251 68 HCS's. Does that make them substantially more valuable than the GT/CS? From what I can tell, no. So, it all comes down to value and the shape of the car and what you are willing to pay. If you can find a seller, I figure you could get a really good original for $14000 to $18000. Maybe less. Much less if you don't mind doing some work.

Now, about that 428 option. That's a whole different proposition. Those #'s I just talked about are for a 289 or maybe a 390. Did you know that an article came out a few years back in one of the monthly magazines ( I believe it was Mustang Monthly. Bob Teets would know, he's got one - lucky S#it!!- ) rating the 428 HCS as like #6 of the 10 rarest Mustangs ever?!? If you want one of the I think maybe 6 that were produced, you just moved up into the Shelby and Boss arena in price, at least that's my guess.

Of course if you're looking for a deal, mines always for sale at the ridiculously low, drive away price of $79,000. I'll deliver. ;D Most people just walk away when they get tht quote. They always ask if I would sell and I always reply with that figure and they always walk away. Wonder what will happen one day when they don't?

I hope you've got a good supply of chapstick. That's a lot of sucking up. I bought my CS with 390 and 4 speed last year out in Seattle for $16,500 and it was in what I consider average condition. A lot of body work and paint had already been done on it when I bought it. I've put a lot of work into it since that time motor, interior, floor pans etc. A local restoration shop referred 2 gentlemen from Australia to me because they wanted a big block and they offered me $25,500 and that was before I completed all the work I've done. Some say I should have taken their offer but, the car is still in my garage. Last time I was at a local restoration shop that deals in big block mustangs a 68 mustang 428 was priced up in the $40,000 bracket and that's not even the HCS or GT/CS. If your looking for something you don't have to put a lot of work into your going to be somewhere in the mid 30's at least for a 428 if not higher from a private seller. Good luck in your search.

God no. Like I said, I think they only made like 6 428 HCS's. Maybe 10 at the most. I only know of one guy that has one.
$79,000 is my way of saying "not for sale". However, maybe one day someone will be crazy enough to write the check. Then I'll go out and get a small block GTCS, a 70 Mach 1 and a 69 Cougar convertible just for good measure.
