As I was coming home from a class I am taking at the college today, minding my own business have you, I just happen to look down a bit of a dead end street not too far from my house. Hey!!! I know those taillights!!! I made a, somewhat illegal, u-turn and pulled up alongside a beautiful red GT/CS that was parked off the road. I really hope I didn't scare the poor man when I jumped out of my Altima yelling, "You have a California Special!!”. I introduced myself , and after talking for a bit I invited him back to my place to see my "baby". Of course I called Tim, Midnight Special, while we were on the way to my place and told him that I “found a new one!!”

Really nice guy!! His name is Mark Bryant, and him and his wife Rose have had their CS for over 40 years! I told him all about this website and he said that he had never been out here. He did promise to "check us out". ~ If you're out there Mark, please join us!!! (or at least come on and post that I am not some crazy GT/CS stalker since this is the second one I have “chased down“ in the past few months :-\

Here are the stats on the car: VIN: #8R01J142825 Door Tag: 65A T 2D 16B 72 5 W and a few pictures…

Renee, I can see you stopping any and all GT/CS's as you are indeed the ambassador for the GT/CS family

Gary (LIMELYT)

...Amen to that Gary! Not only did Renee call, but she put a rather "shell shocked" Mark on the phone with me while she fetched her CS from the garage. I could tell he had been (pleasantly) accosted as Renee's latest victim! I often wonder if things were different and if I had never met Renee - what it might be like to get caught driving a GT/CS in her neighborhood. Mark seemed beyond thrilled as a 40-year regular driver, never shown, proud owner and Wow... to meet someone like Renee and see her beautiful car practically in his own back yard! We pledged to get together with him and his magnificent J-code for some scenic driving (which he says he often does alone). More to come of this, I'm sure :)

yes, Renee is one of a kind

Gary

...And an extremely "kind one" at that :) She did a great pitch for our "site"
and its awesome & resourceful membership. We'll see if Mark signs on here & we do some driving and more photo ops with yet another magnificent CS!

By the way Renee - this is what I meant when I said I was "quadloggin' " today ;-)

Renee I think that we are going to have to change your handle to GT-CS stalker. I would like to drive my car through your neighborhood, ckick my stop watch and see how many seconds it takes to be detected!. Way to go Renee.

Tim that is quite a logging operation. sure beats packing it out by hand. I am sure my boys would sign up for that operation. Grandpa allways said work smarter not harder. I never under stood that till I had a few years behind me. Marty

Marty

...Well Marty, I'm giving you fair warning! Here in (broke) California - clandestine cops are everywhere setting up speed traps and pulling all stops to bust you for any possible (and petty) infraction in order to finance the (morally) bank(cor)rupt state budget....

Renee has likewise gone undercover (in a maroon Nissan Altima) to round up as many unsuspecting GT/CS drivers (minding their own business have you) in order to boost enthusiasm and promote the high points of "we" who prefer "the good ole' days" of and driving obsolete, inefficient, but exciting classic Mustangs!

If you're cruising the I80 corridor north of Sacramento and south of Auburn, expect to be yelled at, chased down, pulled over and grilled...asked to see your Marti report opposed to license & registration... then escorted to an off freeway garage for further inspection and comparison, photographed and maybe hugged...then ordered to serve time on this website to gain further gratification for restitution!!

Indeed, it's getting to be a tough world out there! Be extra careful!!

Yes you have a contagious way about you, Renee.

I don't call it 'stalking', really. I call it "GT/CS enthusiasm". I've been known to hunt down other CS cars in my neighborhood, and in doing so made some good friends.

Tim it sounds like personal experance talking! That could happen quite easly in a S code GT-CS?

...Funny, but I've never been cited in a Mustang of late (knock on hood...) That's to say I've never been caught. Speed runs have been short, calculated and in places & times of no traffic. My S-code pleasures are mainly with acceleration to the limit (or beyond when mirrors are checked) from stoplights and powering out of the many hilly curves along the commute.

Aside from admiration, I believe most cops pay little attention to classic musclecars because their owners are more into preservation than the "hell bent" racing & chasing of thirty years ago. Add to that; speeding tickets and trapping thereof has become so automated with aircraft, radar and light beam detection... Mostly what I see stopped are the kinds of cars that can do 90 mph all day, plus "late to school" mini-van moms and latte-sipping cellphone drivers...

I do get checked out a lot when on the highway, which is why I finally mastered the habit of keeping the license tags current and those darn brake lights working ;-)

Good job Renee. I hope he logs on and visits with us soon. It would be nice to get his perspective of being stalked!!

Wish I could keep my brake lights working!!! I haven't been able to drive my Special lately :'-( But, as soon as I get a chance, I will either bring it up to your place Tim, or make an appointment for you to come down here. Either way, I'll cook dinner ;~}

Amy, it is so fun to run into other CS drivers when you're least expecting it!! I do hope Mark joins us and chimes in on this thread. Just might make another friend. (are you out there Mark??? If so, are your ears burning?? :)

Marty, I'm sure that it wouldn't take me long to notice you around here. I can spot a Special quite a distance away :-]

I am guilty of being a stalker too. For over thirty years now I have hunted down my prey. I even flipped a huge u-turn in my F350 (where I shouldn't of been able to) to chase down a CS I saw at the local mall in the darkness... at the last second I saw that it was Ruben and his family!! Poor guy.

Renee I can't belive that your brake lights are not working again. It can't be the turn switch this soon. Sounds like it may be a grounding problem. May be Tim or TJ could run a jumper wire for a ground just to see if that is the problem. We can't have that beautiful GT-CS sitting in the garage! Marty

Marty, I still have the new switch you found for us. Last year (with Renee's entry in Autorama around the corner), I took it to a classic car mechanic down the street who became uncertain about those four extra wires. He elected instead to clean the existing switch (for $200 and about two weeks of lights working...) Now with greater wisdom intact - Renee & I will install it properly ourselves.

All brake light switches were not created equally.

Manual and disc are different.

We have the listings here.

Thank you Scott!
What we have here is the replacement turn signal switch that will work, but contains four extra wires for (presuming) sequential application. All of the other wires in the harnass are connected and color-coded same as the old switch. This seemed to be the only replacement available last year...

The manufacturer of that part lists these applications; 1968 Mustang, Cougar, Mark III, and Thunderbird. The last two cars likely use those extra wires for speed control.
Scott D (the male duck guy) repackages these so that, that information is lost.

Donna, I can just imagine you pulling a fast "U"y and chasing down some poor unsuspecting soul just out for a leasurly drive. Way to go girl!!! I guess we are all guilty of the same thing. We just have such a great appriciation of these beautiful cars that we can't help but spot them from a distance and want to know more.

Tim, yes, you and I will get that new switch in that Marty sent. We just need to find the time :-\ It is going to rain this weekend with possible snow up your way, so we may need to hold off for a while longer. Still, be need to get it done before this year's AutoRama in February!
