The car is mine, it is for my sons wife ultimately. He will get the Shelby KR and her this convertible. The car was totaled twice in the past and has had a ton of work before me done to it and most of it was sub par. So I figured I had a blank canvas to work with and thought I could make it look a lot like the 68 Shelby if I tried. Plans are to do it Acapulco blue like the fastback, but I wanted to see how it looked before I committed to a full paint job. So things like emblem placement, type of hood scoop and stripes remain subject to change as I was just doing it by eyeball. I wanted to do more of the 68 Shelby GT/CS spoiler in the back as well but this was much cheaper than making my own. The 69 Shelby spoiler is too big and others I have seen are also to tall and flat for my taste, I like the 68. So I tried to hide it a bit by painting it body color. The grill surround was also taken apart and painted body color as the argent was too much silver, and did not look like the 68 Shelby that way. It was more work than it looks to complete, like the tail light were made for a fastback and were too wide and gas cap was tool small. I want with the silver "argent" light panel like the Shelby, as I just like that look better than body color or the 67 Shelby and GT/CS. The Shelby side scoops stuck out to far so I narrowed them into the body to follow the lines better. I am thinking of getting rid of the MUSTANG letters on the trunk and going with a black stripe as well. So it is still a work in progress until it goes to blue paint. I put in Standard interior as that is what it had original and looks more like the 68 that way. I may put in a consul but I sure like the hump hugger with the cup holders, but not very stylish. I will but a bit more tilt on the roll bar and lower it 3/4 an inch, a small thing but just looks a bit tall and forward, but that is where the 69 Shelby instructions said to put it, but since it is not a clone of a Shelby or anything else I can do what I like. For Robert Campbell placement of the rear California Script was just done asking my wife what she liked, and I don't think she has ever paid much attention to factory specs, and for something that never existed I figured anything goes. So it is a driver may make a few SoCal shows as well as local stuff. It was fun to have freedom to do what I wanted even with a small budget as there is about $4000 of parts into it is all at this time so not a budget breaker.
