As you probably already know Mustang and some of the major food chains are what we have in common between Europe and US ,where I live for example we drive on your other side.

I thought these terms might come in handy or at least if you didn't know it might interest you to find out .

You say ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,we say

Hood ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Bonnet
Fender or rear quarter ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Mudguard
Motor,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Engine
Transmission,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Gear box
Bodyshop,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Panel beater/ sprayer
Bondo,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hard metal.

That is all I can think of from the top of my haed but if something else pops up I'll put it in with these ,
I hope this rather useless information interests you

Regards Eric

I (we) say engine. A motor is an electrical device. ;-)

Neil

Don't quote me then the above is based on what I think it is

But at least it started a conversation .
But yes I agree Motor is used for electrical devices , I'm sure I hear my american collegues at work use the term Motor for engine .

As I understand it motors can be either electric or internal combustion, but engines can only be internal combustion.

Or non-auto word meanings...

OZ/UK: Bum bag
US: Fanny pack

You get really odd looks in OZ when you say "fanny pack"
