There was a really good article regarding how to take the best picture of your car in either Mustang Monthly or another of the club mag's, I'll see if I can find it. I used their tips to help get a better picture. So when there are shadows, or the whole car is not in the picture, or the background is distracting, it can take away from the subject (your old or new GTCS). Honestly, there were more pictures of older CS's submitted so there is a higher likelyhood of getting a good shot and getting it selected. I really liked this years shot of the NEW red CS under the moss stained overpass- nice use of geometry and shading. I felt the best shot of last years calendar was the NEW white CS in front of the rocks- great shot! So if you want a chance at being in the calendar, take a really good shot, or like me, take about 500 and get lucky! (Thank goodness for digital cameras!) :)

I guess this was my point. IMO, this was probably the best photograph submitted. Not that I'm any expert. But I would think that the photo that I like the most would at least make the top 13. But as it stands now, this car will not and won't make it into the calendar. So I think I'd have to disagree with your last statement about taking a really good shot if you want to be in the calendar. The owner of that car took an outstanding photograph, IMO, yet it doesn't seem like it will be in the calendar.

I love the older cars and voted for several of them, but I think some of the photos of newer ones are deserving as well. Unless this is a 68 GT/CS calendar. Maybe that is what most members want. If that's the case, tell us so we don't go though the trouble of taking and submitting our photos next time.

I actually said "chance of getting in the calendar", it is still up to a vote by the members. Guess some speeches and hoorah's are in order? Let's just not start mudslinging......:)

I have a 68 as you all know, and I voted for several of the new model GT/CS's. They look great to me, and I like the variety in the calendar. Casey

Sorry- that's not what I meant

I am a very tongue in cheek type of humor guy- I only meant mudslinging like the current politics are exhibiting, not that you were mudslinging- ah yes, the joys of blogging....
So look, we all have CS's, just varying by years. Yes, the 68's are "the orginal" but I am very impressed with the 07-09 version. There will always be divisions- shoot just between the 68 owners there was even a huge discussion on what was the best color (SHEESH)!
Have you ever read your kids Dr. Suess's Star Belly Sneetches?
Kinda like that....
There is always a "preference" all of us humans cling too, who knows the why's and why nots, lets just enjoy each others cars and drive while we can all afford the gas...

Hey, no problem. I just didn't understand. I think I gotcha now. You meant speeches, hoorahs, and mudslinging like in an election campaign?

I'm with you about enjoying our cars. I've enjoyed my 68 and my 07 immensely. I've also enjoyed coming here and sharing that enthusiasm with the members of this site. I'm just a little taken aback that some of the outstanding (IMO) pictures of the newer cars haven't gotten enough votes to have even one of these cars in the calendar.

I am not a great one to take pictures, but just enjoy taking them of my 07 GT/CS. I am just honored to be even chosen to be listed here. I to, have voted for both the early and late models. All the entries are great pictures and so hard to just choose 13.

After much soul searching, I've decided to ask a favor of you all. Since I was honored to have the cover last year, please don't vote for my car (21). Vote for whomever else you may choose, but I'd like to see more of the new ones represented. That's all.

Too late. I already voted for your car. And even if I hadn't voted yet, I wouldn't listen to you. You know, all that rebellion business to establish my independence.....

When I vote I don't vote on the car either.
I don't base it on color, year, owner, etc...

I vote based on the picture.
Is there something distracting in the picture?
(example: stripes in a parking lot ... just using that as an example I don't think we had that in any pictures)
What is in the background, on the ground, in the car, on the car, etc ...

Does the car stand out? That's important to me. The car should be the center of attention with the backdrop supporting the car not the other way around.

I'm aware of these things but I wonder if others subconciously pick up on those things

I'm not criticizing ... just listing the things that drive me to vote one way or another.

I took pictures of my car along the Hudson River. I thought they were great, sailboats and seagulls in the distance - I said this is my calendar shot.
I got home and looked on my PC and realized there was clover all around the car on the ground ... it was a sea of white. That was it ... I couldn't get my eyes off the clover no matter how good the car and background looked. So I didn't submit that picture and took more.

Most of all I look at the picture and try to imagine it on the calendar and hanging in my office and garage and looking it at for a full month.

Maybe I'm too much into the details.
These are all great pictures and are getting better every year. Look back to the past calendars ... people are getting more and more creative. And keep in mind most if not all of us are not professional photographers. I think we've raised our standards over the years and the calendar that's produced is awesome!

We've raised the bar I guess without realizing it.

Like I said I vote based on the picture not the car.

I went back and checked and I voted for a decent amount of late models. Great job everyone and good luck to all!

I have a thought for next year, it's up to Jon of course.

1. If you are in the calendar this year, you have to wait one year to submit again

2. All of this years winners compete for the cover shot the following year.

The issue I see with this arrangement is there is a potential Jon doesn't get enough pictures.

Yes it is! I finally got the car down to the Chi-town Kruze this year and got some great shots of the car with the city and lake from various locations. Casey

OK Casey I have to ask ... did you purposely align the writing on your tires or was that just by chance?

Great shot by the way!

It was driving me nuts figuring out what cars were in the running. The latest stats are attached.

Also...

Here are some of those tips on the web

http://www.cobracountry.com/fototips/

After reading this I often force my flash on when photographing cars and especially engines - even in daylight.

You get some great reflections and lighting with it

Here is a quick read pamphlet from Hagerty too
http://www.hagerty.com/assets/PDF/Photo_pamphlet_2004-261.pdf

I'm no professional photographer by any means ... I just really enjoy taking pictures - especially at car shows and events and sharing them with others.
These tips really do make a difference.

so close, and yet, so far........lol

You have to get just 7 or so more people to vote for you to get in the running JBART!!

Are you showing up at the debate or what?

I can't believe only 67 people have voted.
Maybe there will be a big rush to the polls down the stretch!!

Jon, Can we make this a "sticky" thread?
