The breaker plate assembly impacts timing, if worn it makes tuning difficult, if not impossible. Some info here: http://www.bob2000.com/dist.htm http://www.mustangandfords.com/how-to/engine/mump-0904-how-to-rebuild--autolite-motorcraft-distributors/ignition-timing.html

    EXP500 Repli-bute...

Show was last week. I could not attend due to biz travel. As the car had a few issues I was not happy with we told them "do not judge". They forgot, judged it anyway, and we missed first prize out of the dozen or so Mustang/Shelby's by a whisker... if we had had a another week or two...

    1968 Judder in power steering

Could also be poor seals in the control valve allowing leakage... new may not mean working correctly, have seen many new PS pumps fail to work as many are really remans.

and on a lighter note... You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer. Frank Zappa

More happy snaps. Outdoor pics, flatbed to the pickup point where it got into the enclosed trailer... Will get some proper pics from the show and at a good location once it gets home....

    EXP500 Repli-bute...

Thanks for the compliments and kind words. Can't wait to see it in the sun getting it on the trailer tomorrow. Still need to sort out the air cleaner, the 390 snorkels I have just don't cut it, so the dodgy open look. Will probably revert to a more stock form, but need to assess the...

Well... the mad scramble is done... .... the transmission decided to play up, so will need to pull it. Later. Goes on a truck to the Melbourne MotorClassica tomorrow, which is ok as they don't let you run the engines in the building anyway. So only the workers the day before an after will see...

1968 Anyone have a Marti on this one?

Shelby fiberglass was "after market" ($, not within Ford's existing supply chain) fit like crap (labor changes) and I think would have added costs they would have a hard time recovering. I would guess Ford Exec's looked at it like "we're selling 300,000 this year, why make another option...

    1968 Glove box detail...

It is kinda odd as my first 3 did not have it, all San Jose cars, two early one late. The Dearborn coupe for the EXP had it (did not recall it, but found it in the bag when disassembling and cleaning the latch for reinstall). It is a pretty vanilla car except for the X code bit, no interior...

    1968 Glove box detail...

Hmm... 86 reads... zero feedback... let me rephrase in yes/no form to see if this is wildly unique or not... Does anyone have a stainless steel trim ring around then glove box button on their '68?

    1968 Glove box detail...

Not really GT/CS related but more "68". I am finishing the EXP and installed the glove box door and latch. The one on the car (Dearborn build, May 68) has a stainless steel trim ring around the glove box button. None of my other 68's have it (all San Jose) I can not tell if it was a plant...

    1968 Engine Firewall

When they were changing parts to save a penny a screw (or likely less) the cost of fully spraying the firewall and using 200-300% more sealer adds up over hundreds of thousands of units.... in time to apply and materials...

    1968 Project car value

Projects rarely bring the sum cost of the parts. And if the list is as in your sig, lots of restomod stuff which limits the interest, or makes them uneeded to the collector you note if original is the goal (where more long term value is IMHO) As a restomod probably could go 25-30k (tops)...

    EXP500 Repli-bute...

Thanks very much for the compliment. Yes, I have to smile every time someone on a forum posts about "bad" fiberglass. They have obviously never seen OEM, or realize how bad the fit and finish of these cars really was in comparison to the bolt-it-on-to-show-car-fit-ready-for-paint many...
