    1968 Engine Questions

Thanks Scott. At this point, we do know that the heads are '66 289.

    1968 Engine Questions

Just looked in the GT/CS Recognition Guide/Owner's Manual. It does mention in the 289 2V writeup that by the time GT/CS production began, the 302 block for the "C" code engine was in use, despite the 289 designation in advertising literature. So that does means that 289 engines were being...

    1968 Engine Questions

My car is a C code, so it is a 289 2v car. The PO told me that he had the engine rebuilt, including .30 over pistons and the appraisal that came with the car mentions that it is the rebuilt original engine. I have the car into my shop right now, as one of the heads is cracked and I am going to...

Sounds to me like you have fixed your problem. Air in the cooling system is not a good thing.

1968 My car dealership in 1968...

Mine came from: Cecil Whitebone Inc. 990 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco CA. It was one of the first 1,000 GT/CS cars ordered at the promotional party put on at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. I don't know if the dealership had them, but I'd love to find a plate frame from there.

    1968 Cylinder Head Casting Number

Thanks for the offer. My original source fell through, but with the car set to go into the shop next week, I will need to obtain heads locally. I believe I have a plan in the works.

    1968 plate under carb

I believe it is a spacer to keep engine heat away from the carburetor. If there was a spacer under the carb, I'd put it back.

    1968 Cylinder Head Casting Number

Again Scott, thank you. Seems I'm always learning something on this site. So far, only 1966 289 heads are available. Waiting to hear from another source.

Thanks for that Scott. I don't know if this car had the thermactor originally. I'm going head hunting....

    1968 Cylinder Head Casting Number

Hi Scott. It's a C-4 automatic and was sold in San Francisco, so a US DSO.

    1968 Cylinder Head Casting Number

My GT/CS was built mid-March and has a 289 2-V engine. One of the heads has a crack which is getting worse. My mechanic wants me to source another set of heads and get them rebuilt for installation on the engine. I strongly suspect that the car has non-original heads, as the PO told me that...

Kind of ironic that you are doing this the same month that your car is the calendar star. Nice work by the way!!

    1968 Trunk color

Pretty sure Neil is right on. My trunk, with the exception of the top of the gas tank, is body colour. I had an original 67 coupe a few years back that was the same. Both cars had the sound deadener on the inside of the quarters, but it was painted body colour also.
