    1968 Deluxe interior question

+1 The originals are like the first photo, note how the vinyl is lifting out of the center of the arc. It is difficult to pull it tight over the metal with out pulling up the center. Most of the aftermarket covers add a seam in the center to help with the lifting. One tip when looking to buy...

    1968 Seat Belt Dye

I went to the dreaded fabric store and found the Rit. It works wonders on black belts. Marty

    1968 Seat Belt Dye

I use clothing dye. In really hot water then rinse with cold to set the dye. I have never had it come off on me. Marty

    1968 Correct grille color?

In the Concours classes if it was noticeably off I might deduct -1. Exact colors back to original are tough with todays paints. Base coat clear coat just looks different than enamel. 1968 Thoroughbred class you must use enamel paint. Much of what is put in rattle cans is not close. Marty

Mike I have to make some for someone else I can send one to you too. I am glad it has been useful, I remember how nervous I was cutting on my newly restored doors. Marty

    1968 door grille template

No one said that it was not possible. Just easier and more accurate. The screws mount in a square insert that must be centered If you miss the speaker hole by 1/4 of an inch it will show out side of the grill. Measure twice and cut once in IMHO.

    1968 Distribution Block/Proportioning Valve Restoration

Many restorers do not go this deep on restoring components including my self until the last few cars. You pictures showing the internal condition of these parts show why it is time well spent to restore them if you want a car that operates like new. Marty

    1968 starter issue still undiagnosed...

A easy way to test a alternator on the car with it running take a large screw driver and touch the center of the back side. It should pull the metal blade to it as it is magnetic when it is working. Marty

    1968 Summer trip planning

I carry most of your list but I am not nearly as organized. I am impressed. I carry a extra set of points or Pertronix module depending on what you are running. First it is frustrating to be on the road side, but much more frustrating not having that one thing you need. Having this stuff will...

    Fairly Simple Convertible Project

Looks to me that he let his inner rockers get bad and hit a rough Railroad crossing. I just hate when that happens.

1968 Ground strap and battery negative wire routing

That is correct location but it is not for the negative it is for the started wire. Some cars have one on the front and back engine mount bolts. Be sure to crimp the eyelet a bit after you have run the wire through. Marty

    1968 Hood Hinge Finish

Neil most places that do plating can so it. I think I paid $25 for the pair to be done. It is not hard to get the supplies and do it on your stove. Just do not let you wife catch you. That is why I have a old range in my shop. For mataintaince I spray with Boshield. Marty
