It is a replacement engine with the block number C8AE-6015-B decodes as a 302 block from the Windsor plant used in 1968 for building 289 engines. The number stamped where the vin would normally be is 8K13 76, which decodes as...

    I might be naive, but from what I have read and experienced first hand, I would be very surprised if NPD trying to drive anyone out of business or that they would up their prices after doing so. They have the best quality parts already and back their products.

    I'd leave it alone. The red paint is very nicely offset by the black side-stripe. I don't feel that adding a black top would improve what already looks really good.
