This is a rare car where only 4,118 were ever produced. In mid February 1968 the California Ford dealers began to market a factory built, limited edition Mustang called the GT/CS "California Special". The hope was for a targeted production run of 5,000, but only 4,118 were made which includes 251 units that were marketed in Denver Colorado as the High Country Special. Production only ran for 5 1/2 months from mid February to early August 1968. The Mustang featured Marshal or Lucas fog lights, Shelby side scoops and rear spoiler with special decals and insignia. Today low production numbers with less cars that have survived makes the 1968 GT/CS a collector item.
