Hi Guys,

The shifter indicator light (PRNDL) is out on our '66, auto, with a non AC console.

Anybody got an hints/ideas on how to change that bulb?

I took the metal plate off around the shifter and almost looks to me that the entire console needs to come off. OR, can the bulb be accessed from below, under the car?

Been reading the shop manual, and can't find any hints there.

Thanks for your help. Dave

Dave,
I am no expert on the 66 cars but I can tell you that on a 67-68 there is no other way to change the indacator bulb than pull the console out. I know because I had to do it two weeks ago. This was the second time in two years. I looked but could not find a LED bulb that would fit. It takes me about a hour to take it out and put it back. Be sure to use a UL-1893 it is important so it does not get too hot and melt the lens.
Good luck Marty

Marty, you are correct, I had to remove the entire center console to get at the stupid bulb.

I did find an LED substitue (I hope). It is a BA9S type, but gotta be careful you get the correct light pattern. I think she called it "center fire" or "360 fire". I went for the center fire - geez, sounds like star wars. Haven't received the bulb so don't know for sure if it will fit.

Have fun, Dave
