Does anyone know what time the Green Hornet is supposed to cross the block at BJ on Saturday? I really want to watch that one. Any guesses as to how much it will go for? :grin:

The owner has some influence at this auction. Only cars that have a value of $500,000 or more are allowed a reserve at B-J.
Heading that way tomorrow, I will be at the auction most of the day on Friday.

I'll go 1.25 mil.... one-off prototype.... in spite of all the controversy, documented as "the car" by Fred Goodell. A true one-of-one , and one of a handful of Mustang prototypes in existence... rare and unique is tossed around a lot in sales posts for most mustangs, but this one is both.

Be interesting to see what it goes for...

Nice enough car for sure, yes some interesting history, VERY cool color combination, but way over-hyped in my opinion. I'm sure there will be a bidding frenzy though, being B-J Scottsdale on a Saturday and all.

It's a one-of-a-kind documented prototype that was supposed to be crushed like Little Red(restoration quality paint daub detail quibbling aside, who knows what Shelby actually did, and how many times they tweaked it, it is the car based on VIN).

One of maybe a half dozen Mustang prototypes on the planet... if you like Mustangs I can't see how you can over hype the car... if this isn't rare and interest most "car folks" nothing will... The Shelby that should-have-been.

It's a Cal Special on steroids... I love it. Fantastic car IMHO.

I wasn't meaning to belittle the car. I guess I just meant because it's the Scottsdale B-J auction, it's gonna garner more attention and bring more money than a private sale would. I love the car, don't get me wrong.

I understand where you are coming from. At the same time, Craig Jackson has owned the car for a long time, so I can't see it being sold anywhere else. It will certainly up the attention that the GT/CS cars get. :wink:

I will likely never have the means to own a vintage Shelby in my lifetime. I've always admired the GT/CS and HCS as far back as I can remember. I'll settle for my '68 GT coupe for now.

My motto, never sell yourself short, If you can think of it, you can do it. If you want to own a Shelby bad enough, you will make it happen somehow, in some shape or form

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I joined this website years ago because of my love for the Ford Mustang, particularly the 1968 model year. While I don't own a GT/CS or HCS, I'm as enthusiastic as anyone here. My car is a San Jose '68 GT coupe, not too shabby I guess! Maybe my ship will come in someday and I can step it up a notch. I've learned a great deal from others on this website and think everyone here is top notch.

...You're better off where you are now, far as I'm concerned. Today's vintage Shelbys are cool to look at, (all lined up at a SAAC event, or even cooler if you get to see one on the track), but what would you do with it rest of the time?

...20-30 years ago - hell yeah! buy one for $6-12K and have a ball (back in the day when our coupes were dime-a-dozen everywhere)!

But today, I'll lay odds that your GT coupe is as much, if not more attractive to the kinds of people you really want to be around, opposed to today's "compare, critique and correct" crowd that surrounds all high-dollar history pieces. Long surpassed by present (factory) performance and thus, regulated to be "potent according to paper".

And if you had a real one - would you not be under enormous pressure (or desire) to keep it 100% correct?

I love my GT/CSs for the very reason that they are not $100K cars. They are a sight to behold (and as rare) to everyday people because you're not taking a huge risk every time you want to drive 'em around or show them in your own home town.

...Just my practical opinion and nothing more, but if the day shall come that my C, J or S-codes become worth over $100K > they'll be gone! No hangar queens here, or toys I can't play with and invite my good friends to drive ... ;-)

And I can say, that I myself have owned, and driven many many classic and late model Mustangs, and all were great awesome cars, but none captured the true heart and soul that my GT/CS has. I have not owned it for long (6 months or so) but I have been with this car for nearly 14 years (was my dads passed down) I have seen the best of the best Shelby's, I have even driven some very impressive ones (and been a passenger in some of which I was scared s#@$less of) and I would much rather own the car I own than a Shelby. Yes they are impressive cars, with history, nostalgia, and decadence with price, but to be truthful, I would be fearful to drive it, store it, and show it in fear of the worst case happening on all accords. Least with the cal, I can go tear up the streets, and put it away not worrying that I just tore up a set of 1200 dollar original goodyears. No, I'll stick with my "poor mans shelby" instead, it suits my persona better anyway :tongue:
