...With the insistance of my son, T.J. and assistance from Mike and Robinette ("Something Special") - aquired this beautiful 1970 Mach I for the collection.

T.J. overheard a lady at a recent car show speakin' of this car that belonged to her late husband cocooned in her garage for the past five years. She said she was finally ready to part with it at a very reasonable price considering how long it sat...

Two inspection trips were made and with T.J.s enthusiasm and Mike's (concours) expertise, our offer was accepted ;-) As the tires were too old for the 25-mile trip home - Mike and wife, Robinette arrived with their tandem trailer and WALAAH!!!!

Upon adding fresh fuel, oil change and replacement of a few marginal hoses - she fired right up and now drives beautifully!

...She'll be a proud addition along with our GT/CSs, in car show processions to come! :)

So when are you going to build a museum for all these beautiful cars? lol You`re going to end up owning one for every year now you know, don`t you? You might as well start looking for others, I can just see it already,"Tims`Mustang Museum"
Its a beautiful Mach 1. I love the color. You made sure it was`nt a clone right? A guy tried to sell me a Mach 1 clone once and since my mother had one, I realized his was a clone. Looks like the number 1 is missing on the trunklid. So what are its options? What engine does it have? Would love to see more pictures.

Hi Rhonda,
No - She's the real deal w/ a large folder full of documentation and tho no Marti, a letter (response) from Ford detailing the VIN authenticity. The only differences appear to be aftermarket valve covers, air cleaner assem., distributor, orange paint (orig. Avacado Green) and one whopping stereo system! 'Still plowing thru all the papers ;-) Mike went over & under it in Sherlock Holmes fashion while TJ & I performed the re-awakening;-) More pictures forthcoming...

It's a 351C (Autolite 4v) FMX auto w/ fold down rear seat and immaculate interior. No rust or evidence of repairs and very tight engine, drivetrain, steering, doors and weatherstripping et-al... Oh, and the "1" is on the trunk lid ;-) I'm partial to CSs, but must say that a good Mach is a smoother ride. I've always loved their "lines" too.

Thank you all for your comments thus far - If you're ever out this way, call me. We'll need more qualified "pilots"
;-)

I don't know how to clean up the inside of a fender well. I just let it build up. Bagde of honor kind of thing... I do clean up the exterior rear quarters, though. Can't mess up that paint...

...Thanks Robb. My 13 yr old son TJ is the real "radar" here. I never should've got him started on collecting "diecast". As an infant, he would crawl over to the front window and just watch the cars go by... When he woke up & cried at nite - we would take him out to hear the freeway where he would instantly go quiet. We have a contest to this day to see who can name all the approaching vehicles on the highway when going somewhere... He puts us to shame every time!

Thanks p51... Man! What are you doing up so late??? ;-)

P.S. I've always liked your avatar...
Re "so late": Just got home. From the clock seemed kinda early to me

Re "avatar": One of the (many) reasons I've always liked the ford mustang - the heritage of its name...

BTW: A very good Spielberg movie is "Empire of the Sun". About an English boy coming of age in a Japanese internment camp during WWII. Its almost worth seeing the movie just for the P51 flyby...

...Saw that movie many times. That one and the end of "Saving Private Ryan" were among the few movies that captured the true essence (and sound) of low flying P-51s! Check out my "Off Topic" post here "worlds fastest motorsport" for more pics...

I read somewhere that they went to great lengths on the soundtrack for Saving Private Ryan. They apparently set up microphones at different yardages and recorded the sounds of actually German and American guns firing and used them at appropriate points in the movie. They probably did the same for the aircraft.

Tim,

You scored big time ... from one fellow CS owner to another, and from one '70 mach1 owner to another - "Congrats" ...
