Yes, Mark DeGroff in North Holywood rebuilt it. All to original GT 390 specs. He did the long block .030 over, original heads, waterpump, etc. but the block had to be replaced. I found a block with a Mustang vin stamped on it 1,356 #s off from mine, that is 2 days in production. I figured that was about as close as I would come. I have since finished the engine to TOTAL CONCOURS specs. I will post some pictures soon. My wife Robinette and I are making this OUR Project to do together. She keeps asking if she can help, and I feel rotten telling her NO, as the project I am working on at the time is a one person operation. This is her chance to get involved. I will start another thread when appropriate to finish this discussion, I don't want to get of topic here. Mike

Mike's engine...

Mach Tires...

...I'm having alot of trouble finding BF Goodrich Radial T/As (my favorite) in P235 60/R15. Three shops have looked & can only find one set of five in an Arizona warehouse. I'm hesitant to get them b/c of rarity in case I need to replace one or two later on...

What would you recommend as a suitable, good looking - performing replacement? "Mustanger"??

I'm running P235 60/R15 in front, and P255 60/R15 in the rear, on 15 x 7 Magnum 500's. Previously I had Dunlops, now I have Goodyears (see pic's) ... I like the Goodyears, they, along with Firestone, were original tires for the Mustang in '70 ...

I recently replaced my Eagle GTIIs with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s. The reason for the replacement was that I had a spinout on wet pavement with the GTIIs and I wanted to get something that "stuck" better (Even before the spinout I had found that the GTII were not the best for wet traction). Before buying I did a little web research. The following is pretty much consistent with all that I found on the web. IMO the 500s are a *much* better tire. Here's the link:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=PAS

Note:
- The GTIIs have a bit more classic look but not by much. The "classic" part aside I actually like the overall looks of the 500s better.
- Be careful. Its the "Firehawk Indy 500s" that have a good reputation. The precursor tire, "Firestone Firehawks", are not as good.
- Safety, not looks, was my overridding concern.

... Yeah, to be fair, I think that the GTIIs are similar to the Firehawks, but the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s are similar to the Goodyear Eagle 1 Nascar skins ... also, if you check the individual links to the specific tire, the Goodyear tire has the more classic look if that's an important factor to you...

Thank you P51 and Mustanger Very Much!! The tire shop couldn't locate a complete set of the Goodyear's (2-here, 3-there...) and the Firehawk Indy 500s were backordered all over the country in that size. They wouldn't' have been able to get here soon enough and the shipping $$ would be high.. I was leaning towards the Goodyear's when lo & behold - a complete set of T/As showed up on their computer in nearby Sacramento (due to arrive tomorrow;-) I deeply appreciate your counsel on this! I will update my gallery w/ more pics when the car is complete. Thanks again!

Well, upon adding the new T/A Radials, we put about 100 miles on her yesterday. She's good to go anywhere!... 13.5 miles to gallon, but w/ secondaries open frequently on the freeway.

'Went by and saw Officer Mike who brought me up to date on his 390 GT/CS restoration... 'Says I need to be careful as this car is more of a "jailhouse jumpsuit red" as opposed to "arrest me red" ;-O

It's a good thing that you got the new tires after they were starting to tear on all tires when I saw it on Friday. very sweet looking car ...
