California Special in Maine on Ehay, owner is claiming all original body panels and came without twist locks. I saw this car a while ago on Ehay from a specialty dealer who gave the same story. ;) ;)

For those interested here is the link to above car.

Seller even states they have a Marti Report. Says all original body parts and that car has spent it's life in California. Interesting. I once looked at a mustang while stationed in California that owner had advertised as a California car with no rust. Opened the truck and low and behold when I pulled up the trunk mat I found a set of Michigan plates and several rust holes. I also noticed his feedback score on ebay is not that great (2) replies.

The twist locks on the GT/CS were installed by the dealers. If you look at the place on your hood where the twist locks go through the support frame, you will notice it's not a smooth factory cut.
I don't know how likely it is but possibly the person who purchased that car requested the twist locks not be installed or didn't want to wait until the dealer installed them.
Just a thought.
And your right, whoever put the stripes on that car had one too many before they went to work.

nfrntau,
The twist locks where all done at the factory, none where done by dealers, the only thing dealers did on the GT/CS's where the fog lights swap (some cars left the factory without lights during the changeover to be fitted with Lucas lights once they got to the dealers). I believe it was not an option to delete the locks, it was part of the GT/CS option group. But as Paul always states "nothing is ever impossible".

I don't know about the hood locks being installed by the dealer but, you won't have a smooth factory cut because a hole saw was used to make these holes. Also, according to Paul's 1st book (page 43) the holes were cut after the hood was painted towards the end of the production line. It's possible that a car could have made it out of the factory without the hood locks being installed or it could be a replacement hood. Maybe Paul could shed more light on this subject?

I remember that car on from the eaarlier listing on ebay also. You can't see from these new pictures, but this car has a luggage rack on the the decklid. I wouldn't want holes in my decklid.

There's a few things about this Mustang that make me see a few "red flags":

The interior has an overhead console with black in the middle. They all had wood applique in '68.

The Seat colors don't match the rest of the interior. The headrests look like they are '69 type (shoved down on seat) with the cording on the ends.

The windshield pillars have padding, and yet the rear reflectors are post Apr. 26th.

The lack of hood pins (factory ONLY), tells me that it was either hit in the front and never replaced those parts, or "if" this car is not legit, those pins and especially the retainers are hard to get (or know where to get them).

The 302 looks kinda like it's a post-'70 motor. New type A/C compressor and belt. Look at the temp sensor on the front right of the intake...it looks post-68. There is a chrome shock tower brace, too. Non-Stock.

No screens on the side scoops. I can't see any witness lines on the scoops, either.

The slotted wheels painted body color "was" done, but very rare...lots of cars today have that repainted.

$13K? Hmmm.....

Paul.

Hi folks, I just received this car on Thanksgiving from Chris in Maine. I had a 440 Challenger that I had bought from him last year that he wanted so we traded straight-up. I've got a collection of old Corvettes and a few other muscle cars. I was somewhat intrigued by the GT/CS as I had never heard of this car before. My first car at age 15 was a 67 Coupe. Anyhow it does have the Marti Report along with about two inches of paperwork dating back to the early eighties. There are appraisals and repair bills all calling this car a GT/CS. It also shows that this car has been in San Diego until the owner moved to Maine a few years ago. VIN# is 8R01C154888 Sold through Bill Morey Ford - Whittier, CA The car is really clean and looking through all the paperwork it appears that the 51,000 miles is true. It seems that this car has caught the attention of a few people and I am truly interested in finding out exactly what I have. I'm in Southwest PA. I'd like invite anyone interested to come and take a look at this car and give me their opinion. Please also write back and tell me how to prove or disprove this car. If it is a fake, someone went to a lot of trouble and expense to do it. I've already found $9,338 in restoration reciepts just from the Eighties???

well, it does list it as a california special. It just seems odd that it doesn't have the twist locks. I think that I'll have to do some investigating.
