Wheels

I'm thinking of upgrading the wheels on my C/S. Either Chrome S/S or Shelby (ala tworingss). I really like the looks of the Shelby wheels, but they seem a bit pricey. The Chrome S/S would look great on my Meadowlark C/S, also. Anyone have a feel for cost of these two types and/or where I could acquire a set? None on E-bay @ this time.

See attached photo. These are the wheels you need. The styled steel in chrome to me are just ausome. I've got both types - Argent on my GT and Chrome on my CS.

Don, those look great. I thought and thought about wheel options and finally decided on the Shelby's from Vintage Wheels. I've considered just having two complete sets since I still have the Argent wheels stored. You wouldn't go wrong either way.

Neil, if you are interested in prices Mustangs Unlimited sells '68 chrome styled steel wheel sets for $800 and 10-spoke sets for $1100.

Are you looking to stay with 14" wheels or move up to a larger size?

Would running Eleanor rims make for super rough ride due to tire size or is that pretty much taboo for purist? :scared:

These ones have backspacing but Im not familiar with fitting. I know some people on the list got "screwed" due to no guarantee. So who do I know in Riverside area that can try some 17in on HER CS to see if they would look good or nor. Hmmm.... :wink:

Personally, I think you can get away with 17s, but IMHO anything larger looks like a little kid playing with his Hot Wheels.

Not sure an 8" wide wheel will fit, though. It may depend on the offset.

Anyone running 8 inchers up front?

According to Mustangs Unlimited, the Shelby wheels are 15" X 7" - so I think I'll stick with the S/S Chrome wheels. They also list the all Chrome (rim) wheels for the same price as the original types. I've seen them, and they look pretty nice also. Decisions, Decisions!!

I should've known you all could be a BAD influence! I just ordered the set of Shelby wheels (15" X 7") for my C/S. (In all fairness, tworings must share part of the blame - The seed was planted when I saw their car @ Galpin.)

ALLRIIGHT!! I'm driving to Atlanta Saturday to pick them up. Then Monday into the tire shop for new treads.
The Argents will come off the C/S and go onto the '68 convert. Did I mention that I'm going to put Deluxe interior in the convert using the original seat upholstery, but new everthing else.

If you're a little worried about fender clearance, you may consider a 60 series tire, especially if you're going wider ... the 60 or 70 number represents a height aspect ratio, it is 60%, or 70% respectively, of the tire width ... BTW, I'm running 15x7 Polished American Torque Thrusts, and 225/15/60's with no clearance issues ...

Neil,

If you stick with a 215/70 in a 15" tire, you will end up with a 26.85" diameter. Your 14" had a 25.85" diameter. If you go to a 225/60-15, you'll end up with a 25.63" diameter, just about 1/4" shorter than what you had before, with a slightly wider tire (~.4" wider). Or you can go to a 235/60-15 and end up with a 26.1" diameter, ~1/4" taller and ~3/4" wider. Either should fit on your 7" rim just fine.

Neil, I'm running 235-60s on the rear (26.1") and 215-65s (26.0") on the front. I didn't want fat tires on the front because I removed the power steering. If you want the rear to look little higher you could go with shorter tires on the front.
