looking to replace my carb. doing research on early posts.
what cfm size recomended for a 302 mild cam eldlebrock 4 bbl headers?
auto trans? is a 500 cfm way to go pros and cons?
what cfm was a 4100 autolite? need some advice! thx

It depends on which 4100 you use but the 1.08" is generally called 480cfm.
Here is a site about a guy who calculated the actual CFMs of various 4100s.

I opted for the Edelbrock 500CFM, electric choke on my stock 302, A/T. Very pleased.

Neil gives good advice. For a mild 302, 500 cfm is plenty. Crisp throttle response and good mileage. But Arlie sent me a 4300 to rebuild. I wet tested it on a stock “J” code engine. When I say wet test, I installed, tuned in, and drove the car. The 4300 was very crisp and in low rpm situations was noticeably better than the 600 cfm Holley that normally is on it. My guess would be better mileage also.

Do not discount the stock Ford offerings if you have one. A 4100 also is a good choice. If none are available for a mild build, I would run the 500 cfm Edelbrock. Proven design and as simple as it gets. If you step from mild to more wild, time to step up to a Holley or Holley clone. They are more adjustable in high hp builds.

I agree with Rob.here. Another great carb is the Holley 465cfm originally found on the Tigers. The originals can be pricey but it is still available as a model 1848 at any speed shop.
