Doug's winter hibernation has been interrupted by a bout of
"New Car Brokenitis"
Took the Subaru to the Mountains on Friday and returned to the town we were staying overnight at by taking a 40 mile "shortcut" to save time.....some savings. The road could best be described as a goat trail. Well, despite careful and SLOW driving, the car emerged with a rattle on right front end and now shimmies tremendously once I clear 50 mph. Had it towed on flatbed 60 miles back to garage in city........awaiting news!

Doug is fine and roads are clear although 2 questions do come to mind:
1)after a cold start and 5 minutes of driving, I turned on heat at a stop sign and Doug stalled. happened 2 more times on way home......weak battery??
2) since it was dark out when I fired Doug up, I noticed that the dome light was burned out---- bulb #? also, any tips on removing cover without breakage? is it a twist or a pressure fit?

If your car is non A/C there is no vacuum control that can affect the engine's vacuum system.
I can't think of anything that would cause the engine to stall just by turning on the heater.
The dome light cover is held in place by 2 screws. Remove them and the lens/cover will 'fall' off.

If you had your headlights on and then turned on the heater, the extra draw MAY have contributed to the stalling issue, especially if you have not driven the car for a while and the battery was down a bit.

JMHO...

OK. If it is an A/C car, check the vacuum line going to the reservoir @ the inner right fender.
