Fuel-Injected 1968 Ford Mustang GT California Special 302 4-Speed
Bid for the chance to own a Fuel-Injected 1968 Ford Mustang GT California Special 302 4-Speed at auction with Bring a Trailer, the home of the best vintage and classic cars online. Lot #216,494.
This 1968 Ford Mustang GT coupe is one of 4,118 ordered with the California Special equipment package. Originally specified in Royal Maroon with a black interior and a J-code 302ci 4V V8 linked to a four-speed manual transmission, the car was acquired as a project by the seller in 2014 and subsequently refurbished. It has been modified with an FiTech fuel-injection system and a GT350-style Arvinode exhaust system, and it is further equipped with 14″ styled-steel wheels, GT/CS side stripes, fog lights, hood vents, front bucket seats, and an AM radio. This Mustang GT/CS coupe is now offered with a Deluxe Marti Report, a window sticker, the owner’s manual, spare parts, a car cover, and a Washington title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Royal Maroon (B) with GT/CS side stripes and features the California Special equipment package, which added a pop-open fuel cap, horizontal taillights, exposed hood locks, and fiberglass trunk lid and quarter panel extensions. The car was repainted and re-striped in 2015, and flaws are depicted in the gallery.
The 14″ styled-steel wheels are mounted with 215/70 Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires. Braking is handled by drums at each corner.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl. An AM radio has been retained, and the seller notes that the heater core is bypassed and that a replacement blower resistor is included but requires installing.
The steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows under 22k miles, approximately 1,600 of which were added under current ownership.
The J-code 302ci V8 has been fitted with an FiTech throttle-body fuel injection system, with the control screen hidden in the glove box.
The car was specified from the factory with a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.00 conventional axle. A GT350-style Arvinode exhaust system has been added.
The window sticker lists initial delivery to Miller Motors of Topeka, Kansas, as well as factory colors, equipment, and a total price of $3,363.49.
The Washington title is a duplicate and carries a Classic brand.
