1968 GT/CS & HCS stripe decal kits? Any favorite vendors?

I emailed Graphic Express and got a very quick reply that they sell a separate stripe kit specifically for the '68 HCS, so that solves my problem of trying to get extra stripe material for the scoops...

1968 GT/CS & HCS stripe decal kits? Any favorite vendors?

I just realized that none of these kits will have the correct side scoop stripe for me since I have an HCS, not a GT/CS. I wonder if I can just buy a few extra feet of the stripe material. (I already have the HCS decals from the Teets family)

1968 GT/CS & HCS stripe decal kits? Any favorite vendors?

I just watched a Youtube video of someone installing 'C' stripe decals on a '68, so I understand a bit better now. They used the soapy water method, but then used a heat gun to dry it out. On brand new paint?!? I think I'll stick with your dry method Arlie. :)

1968 GT/CS & HCS stripe decal kits? Any favorite vendors?

Thanks. I'll go direct to Graphic Express then. Did you all install the decals yourself or have your paint shop do it? Are the decals sticky-backed like stickers? Or like scale model kits where you soak in water and they transfer off the paper backing?

1968 GT/CS & HCS stripe decal kits? Any favorite vendors?

I'm looking at stripe kits and there are a few different suppliers that the major Mustang shops carry, and pricing is all over the place, so hard to judge quality. Anyone have experience with any of them? NPD sells kits by "Decal Magic" for $128 -...

1968 Are reproduction steel hoods any good?

I joined the FB group and saw the hoods for sale, but they're in ID. Seller won't ship, which is understandable since shipping would be a huge hassle and expensive. But I appreciate the suggestion. I wasn't aware the FB group existed. Thanks Marty. I found a local Dynacorn for a reasonable...

1968 Are reproduction steel hoods any good?

Thanks for the offer Marty. Yeah, I think shipping costs would be prohibitive. I checked a few of the mail order Mustang shops and shipping alone is $300-400.

1968 Are reproduction steel hoods any good?

When I had my HCS media blasted it looks like the hood got warped a bit. It's not terrible, but In the right light you can see slight indentations in all the spots where there isn't structural frame on the underside. Talking to a paint/bodywork guy, he's suggesting getting a new hood instead of...

1968 Checklist for initial start of a rebuilt engine

Success!!! We were finally able to run the engine for the first time yesterday. Maybe fate was being kind and making up for all the road blocks we had to overcome to get to this point, but everything went extremely well. It fired up right away, but wouldn't keep running the first couple of...

1968 Checklist for initial start of a rebuilt engine

Thanks Dave! I really appreciate the offer, but I have an Autolite 2100 2V carb, so I don't think the Holley pump cover will fit.

1968 Checklist for initial start of a rebuilt engine

Just an update... that my son and I still haven't been able to fire the engine. We had everything all set; oil pump primed, electrical all connected, radiator topped of with distilled water, and fire extinguisher at the ready. But on our very last step (filling the carb bowl with fuel) we found...

1968 Checklist for initial start of a rebuilt engine

I'm using Lucas break-in oil which has a lot of zinc. Yes, I was going to drill a hole in the t-stat, but when I got it from the parts store it already has a hole with a rubber stopper, which I assume is to act as a one way valve. Thanks for the note on the transmission fluid. I thought my...

1968 Power steering pump rebuild - pressure plate cracked!

Got the new NOS pressure plate in the mail yesterday and finished re-assembling the pump. Pretty straight forward process. Hopefully no leaks when I get it running on the engine.

1968 Checklist for initial start of a rebuilt engine

I'm getting ready to fire up my rebuilt 289-2V for the first time and want a sanity check to be sure I'm not missing any steps: Fuel Carb was running fine when I pulled the engine, but I cleaned out the bowl, float, jets, needle and seat with liberal sprays of carb cleaner to get rid of any...

1968 Power steering pump rebuild - pressure plate cracked!

I opened up my PS pump to rebuild it (gaskets, seals, O rings) and got a little surprise when I took off the pump housing. The pressure plate was cracked clean in half? It's been a few years since I drove it, but at the time there were no issues with the power steering. Worked fine, no weird...
