    Most Elusive Mustang Part?

Scott a thought (happens every once in a while) came to me today...... if no Grp 27 till 1969 then why did Ford make a Grp 27 battery shield with the C7 engineering and part number ;)

    Crushing Cars

Looks like I need to make a trip south (after compiling a decent list of where to visit) to document all the details I can collect. Nor Cal has kept me busy but should check out some other areas it seems. (Doing Colorado later this year possible and part of AZ)

    Urgent Help - Decals

Yes that decal was placed at the engine plant before it was shipped. These engines were shipped with the valve covers in placed so no reason for them not to be there

    Urgent Help - Decals

Correct the CAUTION decals are not factory but sent out or placed on cars during the early 70's. Plenty of forums (including this one) have gone over this in the past CobraMan list the decals you got in the kit (what you get varies depending on who made them) and we'll help with where they...

    Urgent Help - Decals

"engine bay decal on the shock tower" Location depended on a couple of things. (picture of a May 68 San Jose X code about 30K original miles- have others if needed) The decal on the drivers side shock tower is mounted high like in the picture and in other cases (likely different worker or...

    Most Elusive Mustang Part?

Nice piece. At least the late 60 ones look like the over the counter - unlike the 64-66 ones (tar tops) :( Still looking for one of them

    New "jewels" for the Jewells!...

Tim, don't know here he's going to keep all of these ;) The standard coupe was there when I was a couple of weeks ago. The gold one must be very recent. More stuff to keep him busy

    Most Elusive Mustang Part?

Didn't say never ;) Stated (long version) that after 30+ years of this and digging through yards I've never seen or heard (until this moment) of a San Jose car with a gray one. Likely seen/found 200-250 67-73 battery shields over that time. Think I've got about 30 at home presently. First one...

    Most Elusive Mustang Part?

    3) Even harder, an original assembly line negative battery cable (one on ebay for $2K now) Been able to find a number of them (of course depends on the application) at yards 4) Big block battery heat shield (especially gray) Never seen or found on a San Jose so we're lucky. There was a grp...

    Most Elusive Mustang Part?

It's pretty easy to come up with difficult to find parts if you focus on limited production models. Like the C80F-AA carbs that are selling for over $4000. But consider items that are difficult to find that millions of Mustangs came with. To that I would offer the following three items 1- An...

    Correct 390 4v snorkel

Since this is becoming a discussion it's likely that this thread may get moved. In any case since cars delivered outside the US were not bound by the same emission standards and regulations car companies sometimes would vary equipment and features - especially when it meant they saved money...

    Correct engine color?

You can often find variations in the engine parts (painted at the suppliers not at the car or engine plants) and variations between plants such as Windsor and the FE plants. IMHO as long as the judge looks at it and does not immediately identify it as the wrong color you will be fine. Don't...

    Correct 390 4v snorkel

Sorry guys I stand corrected on the bend. Only have the late versions, none from 68 and the later 72-final 75 version have enough mistakes (replacement numbers) that I try and stay away from using it as a reference. Since we're on a Calif Special board I don't see any particular reason for an...

    Correct 390 4v snorkel

The original X codes I've seen appear to have the same snorkel as the 390 GT's delivered in the states. Here is one example from a San Jose built X code with 40,000 miles Decal on the snorkel is not original(also rad cap, shock, rad hose, clamps and spark plug wire) but from a retrofit Nox...

    "Front" sticker on air cleaners

Nice magazine pictures but we're getting way off the focus (though I like seeing the 71 CJ Cougar since I'm building one) with 71 vehicles. Have had much faith in magazine cars since they were often prepped and reused various times. The one original (though a but rough ;) 70 in the one picture...
