    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

Ta-Da, She lives! Thanks for all the support and helpful hints. Turns out it was backfiring because the "expert" moved the wires in the cap 1 hole clockwise and put #6 wire in the # 5 hole in the cap. So, reversed the wires and she fired right up. Now, when I set the timing at 6 deg. I have...

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

Got my car back today. It starts and runs, but, I still don't think it is timed right. Idles rough and when I step on the gas it back fires out the exhaust and sometimes out the carb. He said he set the timing at 8 deg., but had marked the dampner at 2 deg. He also asked if the engine had a...

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

I've thrown in the towel.:( A friend from our church is the manager at the Ford dealer here in Monroe and said to bring it down and they would take care of her. It's not easy letting someone else touch your baby. It's for the best, as she needs an experts touch. Will find out later today how...

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

Well, checked the spark at all the plugs, all good. Drained the tank and "mopped" out the carb. Put in 4 gals.of gas, sputtered a couple times then nothing, Thought maybe I flooded it, so let it sit for awhile (1/2 HR), then tried again and no go. Had a beer, that didn't help the car, but I feel...

#1 on the 351w, is looking rearward, it is just to the right of the cap clip. In the book the timing for the '69 351 should be 6 BTC. Should I set there or at TDC? Bret

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

After reading and rereading all the different manuals I have , I discover that the rotor should point at the #1 on cap, not the #1 on the block. That's way i"m reading it. So, TDC, #1 piston on compression, rotor at #1 at the cap. Ready, set, go, rats no go, battery to weak. I'll try and jump...

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

Yup, got fuel to carb. Even so, I took the carb off and cleaned it up (took the top off and cleaned the float bowl), put it back together and back on the car, poured a small amout of fuel down it's throat and still nothing. I haven't put the pvc hose on yet. Looking for a molded one. It only...

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

First off, thanks for the input, Steve it is a 351w. I checked and double checked the firing order. I pulled the #1 plug and cranked it over wearing what I thought were good enough gloves, wrong, zapped my ass. So, pretty sure it's getting spark. Probably should check all the plugs for...

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

I have spark from the coil thru the wire to the dist. and to the plugs. Is there a way to test the coil itself, I tried a multi meter, but not sure I was hooking it up right. I'm thinking it has to be gas. It has been sitting since around Dec in the garage. There is less than an 1/8 tank of gas...

    1968 Starting Problem GT/CS

I just got the engine and trans back in the car and everything is hooked up. I've double checked everything I can think of and it won't start. I've tested the coil, plug wires, plugs for spark, reset the timing, clocked the distributor several times. Rotor pointed at #1 on compression stroke...

I'm not sure how far to the gorge, never been there. It's past Darrington. Mapquesting it from Monroe, is just over 2 hours. Now the most important info; Starbucks------- If you follow 522 all the way to Monroe, where it intersects with hwy. 2, it will be on the left (look out the drivers...

Amy, It's only about 45 mins. to Monroe. 405 to 522 and it drops you right at the fairgrounds. I'm not sure where they will do the photo shoot. Probably the big parking lot right behind the county courthouse on the corner of hwy. 2 and 179th. Bret

1968 GT/CS in "Good Guys" on FOX tonight

Looked like a '68 cougar, and they shot up the little red '65 I think. Glad they didn't take out the Yellow Boss or the Blue Mach 1. All in all, not a bad show.

    1968 Problem NOT Solved

just a thought Rob, Is it possible that the shock towers have cracked from all the torque causing the upper a arm to move? I've known of it happening with the big blocks,so with the horses under your hood, it could be possible. Good luck. Bret

Thanks for all the input. Got it figured out. I went to the local trans shop and it turns out all I needed was a new flex plate.
