    6-Cylinder '68 Mustang

I’ve heard horror stories about changing a ring and pinion. Is it really that difficult? If I switch to a 5-speed some day I’ll need to change the rear gears.

    1968 1968 Console Insert

Do you have the black rubber inserts, or are they missing? http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/132415402923?vectorid=229466&ttle=1967+1968+Mustang+Console+Seat+Belt+Cup+Liner+Antirattle+Rare+Oem+Ford+67+68+Gt&tc=US&item=132415402923&rmvSB=true

I like the dual exhaust and 5-speed ideas. I’d probably use Rob’s exhaust tips, they look meaner.

I’m not too sure about that. A nice new shiny white top may clash with the rest of the patina.

1968 Confirmation of California Special Trunk Lid

Here are photos of the lid in question, a GT/CS lid, and a '67 coupe lid. It looks to me like Ford, or someone, may have used a standard '67/'68 deck lid and added a fiberglass outer skin.

1968 What is one of the earliest California Special VIN numbers

Here is the thread with photos. The deck lid has a Ford part number on it. http://californiaspecial.com/forums/showthread.php?p=110618#post110618 Here is a mirror image of the part number

    1968 Tail/Brake Light Ground

If you want to get to the light socket wiring you'll need to remove the bumper, then remove all the screws along the bottom on the panel and the screws along the top. I don't remember if the gas cap can stay on the car, but I don't think so. Here is the correct ground location.

Thanks for catching the date mistake. I've since changed it in my post. Attached is first page of the registry.

1968 What is one of the earliest California Special VIN numbers

Dave, Before Rob responds...... For a number of reasons, one being that the VINs don't necessarily correspond to build dates, there is no real way to know where certain cars fall in the production calendar. As an example your car was scheduled for the 9th but was built on the 8th. We...

1968 What is one of the earliest California Special VIN numbers

Unfortunately, there isn't a definitive answer to that question, but yes, it could be one of the very early cars. The earliest Marti-confirmed car we show is 130315, but we have 12 cars with earlier VINs that are probably California Specials even though they don't show as such on the Marti...

Rob, Would you have any use for a dusty old 4300? Maybe for parts if nothing else? Oops, in a Motorcraft, not an Autolite.

    1968 Trunk Correctness

I've seen two GT/CSs with trunk bumpers. The cars were probably restored by people who were familiar with Shelbys, but not California Specials. This car was at a show in Houston.
