There you go! If you can ship that engine up to Steve's house, drive the car down to Idaho, and talk Rob into bringing some decent beer over the mountains, we'll have the old engine out and the new one installed in no time at all.

Those numbers are double what they should be, unless he is pulling and reinstalling the engine. Even then they are too high.

For Sale Highly Optioned J Code in need of restoration

It seems to be a very solid car with very little rust, it's just baked in the Yakima sun for 20 years so the interior needs to be replaced, as well as all the hoses and other rubber items. It was hit in the right rear at one time and the shop replaced the right quarter panel, made a new...

Gas Mileage: Who's CS drinks fuel the quickest/slowest?

I drove it to Yakima and back today for its first real road/shakedown trip. Discovered a couple problems that need to be addressed but what I was worried about was turning so few revs in 5th gear going up hills. With 300 torques it was no problem at all, even when I got stuck behind a truck...

    1968 Stripe install

Neil, I'm a bit of an oddball (I prefer rebel) in that I don't use water so I can't say if your wet method is correct. I tape the stripes on the car where I want them and then run tape along the top edge of the paper to use as a guide. I then cut the bottom paper at the midpoint of the stripe...

For Sale Highly Optioned J Code in need of restoration

I'll write up a more complete description later but briefly, all the options were added by the owner. He purchased it in the late '70s and it was already painted brown at that time. He then found a wrecked car with a deluxe interior and placed all the parts in his car. He also added a 9"...

For Sale Highly Optioned J Code in need of restoration

At least $10K, it may be pushing $12K by the time all the paint and bondo is scraped off and the horrors are exposed. The way I see it that may not be a deal breaker because this car should be worth quite a bit more than a typical 289-auto-2.79 car when it's restored. If I had the garage...

Steve is going to be in the area so he offered to help me inspect the car. The hot Yakima sun has certainly melted the interior. I've never seen one that bad. I found the car in GoogleEarth and it's been in the exact same spot for a long, long time. The aerials go back to only 2003, and...

Gas Mileage: Who's CS drinks fuel the quickest/slowest?

After driving to Steve's house and back for 140 miles, and driving to and from work on side streets for 80 miles, I averaged 20mpg with a J-code, 5-speed, and 3.25 gears. Can't wait to see what kind of mileage I get on the open road without all that city driving. At 70mph I'm turning only...

    1968 Questions on restoration

That is a stone deflector mounting bolt. If I remember correctly the 4 prongs stay above the deflector, and the rest is below. The side wings go through the slots then you turn the bolt to lock it.

I just shot the owner's brother a note, asking if I can see the car this weekend, assuming it's still in Yakima. ETA It's still in Yakima so I'll head over there Sunday morning.
