All paint manufacturers back then had binders with paint chips (phtographs) of each color. They show up on eBay from time to time. I've never seen any books with actual paint chips but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

I can understand the gas tank and exhaust rusting out due to consensation. The lowest point of the fuel system is the gas tank and the lowest point of the exhaust system is that funky vertical muffler. But I'm still not convinced of this car's authenticity. My guess is that a little serious...

Wow, nice looking car! There might be one small bug in the whole deal for those of you care about absolute originality. The seller says that the car was repainted using the correct lacquer finish. If I remember correctly Ford did not use lacquer in 1968, they used enamel. GM used lacquer...

I'll be darned, it does have the standard '67 front end but with the round lights in the grille. I always just assumed it had a Shelby nose on it.

It seems that Mike really knows metal-working and seems to offer good advice on ways to fix things, and we all need all the help we can get. My only issue is with the tone of the responses, and the insults. An occasional, "you might want to try", or "what's worked for me" would go a long way.

Most broken pot metal gets thrown away because it is so difficult to work with, but you might want to try roughing it up with a course grinder disk then fiberglassing it.
