    1966-67 HCS It runs!

Hi all, Finally got the rebuilt engine running with no "expelling" of any fluids! I drove it 12-13 miles just around town, and the temp gauge stayed right in the middle. Getting the hood back on and adjusted properly was a real trick. Thanks for all your help. Dave

. another chapter in the engine puke saga

Hi all, I took the radiator out & had it boiled out, guy says it cleaned up good. While the radiator was out, and with the t-stat removed, I used the garden hose and put water in the upper radiator hose until the water ran clear out the bottom hose. I also flushed the heater core. Put every...

    . still pukes

Hi all, I did have two 3/16 holes drilled in the t-stat, in a n effort to "burp" the engine. I filled the radiator and let it sit over nite, hoping to avoid the air bubbles. I will use the trick Rob has suggested of removing the heater hose and filling the cooling system, as well as checking...

    . still pukes

Hi All, Got new cooling hoses put on, the t-stat is installed correctly. (See my previous post regarding engine erupting.) Without the radiator cap off, started the car, ran for 10 minutes, shut it off for 10 minutes (+ or -), started, ran another 5-7 minutes, shut it of and repeated a third...

    1968 engine out

While the engine was out of our car, I rented a car dolly and took the car to an auto detailer shop. They used their high pressure washer and some degreaser to clean the bottom of our car. Worked out good 'cause the dolly got the front end off the ground and allowed him to get at the...

    . rear end lube

Hi all, I want to change the rear end lube in the '66. I would hate to think how long the present lube has been in there. The specs in the original shop manual refer to a C1AZ-19580-E or F, with a Ford spec ESW-M2C50-A. BUT, those specs are from 48 years ago, and I can't find any rear end...

. Endine rebuild - now cooling system erupts

Yep, I got 17-20 minutes before "old faithful" erupted - twice. The guy that built the engine said that 10 minutes & varying the RPM would also work. He is a former NHRA super comp guy & has built 100's of engines. I am going to replace all the hoses. They are 16 years old & probably put...

. Endine rebuild - now cooling system erupts

OK, I get the dumb a$$ of the year award. I pulled the T-stat, and where it says 'to rad" is a tiny, lightly stamped arrow, which I did not see previously, indicating which direction the t-stat should be installed. Naturally, I had installed it the wrong way. Hopefully I haven't...

. Endine rebuild - now cooling system erupts

Hi All, I've had the engine in our '66 HCS rebuilt, and got it back in the car. Started it today for the first time. It ran for about 15 minutes, got good & warm, and the bottom radiator hose came off. Anti freeze everywhere - what a mess. I don't know if I didn't get the clamp tight, it...

    1968 Brighter brake light bulbs??

I got some 1157 LED replacements from O'Reilly auto. They are bright, direct plug in, and work great. They can be seen on the O'Reilly web site by doing a search on their web site for: 1157r OR: 1157red They are made/sold by "Jam Strait". Have fun, Dave

    1966-67 HCS plugs & C4 info needed

Rob, thanks for your help. Once I get the flex plate on, I'll do some measuring. I'm doing this by myself, so lifting the transmission up on it's end would be a task. Having trouble with one of the threaded bolt holes in the end of the crank, it doesn't want to allow a bolt to be screwed in...

    1966-67 HCS plugs & C4 info needed

Hi all, What makes the plugs in the first photo have the red color to them? They are the ones I took out of the 289 engine prior to having it rebuilt. In the next three transmission photos, is the converter seated properly? I pulled the transmission off the back of the engine and have not...

    1968 1968 hcs

There is a guy on this forum that has a "hobby' of keeping track of High Country Specials. BUT I think he only does 66-67 HCS cars? You might try him - highcountrybob - on this forum. If you would have the color, engine/trans, or any other information about the car, that would be a big...

    1968 radio

I have had 2 Custom Auto Sound radios, one in a '48 Chevy street rod & one in our Mustang. Both of them failed. They are junk. I bought a device called RediRad - works great! Dave

    1968 Brake light problem still

Do the tail lights work correctly, and the blinkers at the rear work correctly? If those do, then the grounds are OK. But if one side is dimmer, I would be tempted to run a separate temporary ground wire from the negative side of the battery back to the grounds for the rear lights. Or maybe...

    1966-67 HCS exhaust manifold options

Engine builder says the curing process for the VHT paint is not a problem. Got the manifolds painted. I have done lots of rattle can painting, but never had a can leak, sputter, spit, goober like this can did. I may have gotten some of the paint on the manifolds!
