Tuning issue on the CS 347

Rob, I have an electric choke on the carb. It's connected to accessory power under the dash...and it works. I can watch it slowly open after turning the key to "on". There IS adjustment to it though. I haven't changed it from out-of-the-box setting. The headers... I was hoping to keep the...

Tuning issue on the CS 347

Rob, I'm leaning towards the middle of the road/cruising end of the scale. Exhaust manifolds are stock. Intake manifold is Edelbrock Performer. Thanks, Jeff

Tuning issue on the CS 347

Holy cow Rob!!! OK. Here goes- Heads are Edelbrock Performer RPM w/60cc chambers Compression ratio is 10.47:1 Distributor is vacuum advance and I believe is original 1968 vintage, but not completely sure. It does have two vacuum ports, although the one closest to the distributor body has...

Tuning issue on the CS 347

Thanks for the info David. I'm thinking it could be the carburetor, too. I'll look at that when I get home. The DVD that came with the Edelbrock carb is unbelievably detailed. One of the first things it talks about is that you shouldn't need to do much of anything to it other than hook up...

Tuning issue on the CS 347

Joe, I want to get clarification of too much timing. Too much timing meaning it would be further away from TDC when it ignites? Like 15 degrees BTDC is too much compared to 10 degrees BTDC? (I think this is what you are saying). Thanks, Jeff

Tuning issue on the CS 347

Joe/David, Thanks for your input. I'm running the stock starter (from the previous 302 motor). It does crank the motor (but maybe not hard enough?) I DO notice if I crank it too long (like 15 seconds), the starter kicks back and makes a "noise". spark plugs are Champions (can't recall...

Tuning issue on the CS 347

Hi all, Fired up the new motor on Monday. Initially, I had some trouble getting it started. But it finally roared to life. :-) Since then it really takes a while to get it to fire up (sometimes it won't). I suspect that it's a timing issue that's causing it to not fire immediately. Maybe I...

Oil Pump Pickup/Pan clearance issue Technical Assistance

Got the engine dropped in last night. After some technical difficulties...Some lessons learned that I'd like to pass along. I thought I'd pushed the torque converter all the way in (looked/felt like it was in) onto the splines on the transmission. I started lining up the flex plate to the...

Mike, Just a reminder- Video documentation of you starting her up (and the grin on your face) and posting it here is a requirement. -Jeff

What do you think is the least seen color on a GT/CS?

I've seen a black CS. It's got to be pebble beige. There was a previous thread that talked about rarest '68 Mustang colors. http://www.californiaspecial.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3693&highlight=pebble+beige Now, if someone has a big block CS in pebble beige (with wood grain stripes), that...

Steve and Steve, Thanks for the real world advice guys. Would hate to crack the bell housing or have a torque converter nut rattling around in there later. -Jeff

Do you where your seats belts in your 68 CS/HCS?

I remember reading somewhere that the reason belts weren't used early on was that conventional wisdom of the time was that it was better to be "thrown clear" in an automobile accident. I KNOW!!! Kind of like the "duck and cover" concept that they taught (maybe if you'r over 40 or so?) in grade...

Who is going to the Knott's Berry Farm Fabulous Ford show

Classic SNL!!! Those were some funny skits that Mike Myers did. Re: rvrtrash (Steve's) front license plate on his Galaxie "XL ENT"- first thing that came to mind was Wayne's World... Party on, Garth!!

Do you where your seats belts in your 68 CS/HCS?

Mine is an early April CS and has/had the bolts for the shoulder harness, but no shoulder harness belts. I'm sure they got disgarded somewhere along the way.

Oil Pump Pickup/Pan clearance issue Technical Assistance

The old motor- Although it sounded good with the glass pack exhaust that is on the CS, it really didn't have much power. I thought I might rebuild it, even after finding that it was not the original numbers matching 289. It ended up being a 302 bored out .030" over. The cast iron heads were in...

Oil Pump Pickup/Pan clearance issue Technical Assistance

Yep, I'm pretty eager to get her going. It's getting very tough to stay patient at this point ;-) I think one of the cooler things about this engine project is having my son helping me. He's learned a lot going through the tear down of the old motor and re-assembly process of the new long...

Oil Pump Pickup/Pan clearance issue Technical Assistance

Hi all, Getting closer...Still have to do some additional detailing of the engine bay before I drop the motor in. Question- Is there any techniques I need to know about with regards to installing the new torque converter? I thought I read somewhere that it'll kind of hit a stop, then turn...
