I post this ad after much thought and with a heavy heart. I have alot more pictures I can send and I‘m happy to receive feedback, answer any questions or assist potential buyers in viewing the car.

One of 4,118 California Special Mustangs produced in 1968. (251 of those were rebadged as High Country Special Mustangs and sold in the Rocky Mountain region.) Only 111 were S-code 390 4v 4 speed cars. This car was built on 4/16/1968 and sold by Suburban Motors in Sacramento, CA.

This car spent the majority of its life in California. From 1974 to 2010 it was owned by Paul Newitt who formed a registry for the GT/CS Mustangs and authored two editions of the book titled GT/CS Recognition Guide printed in 1987 and in 2011. The car sat in storage from 1997 to 2010 when it was purchased by my father Bob Teets. Bob was a very knowledgeable Mustang enthusiast who restored a dozen plus cars over the years. He also formed and was the registrar of the High Country Special Mustang registry before stepping away in 2018. The original drivetrain was removed sometime in the early 80’s and replaced with a 289, auto, 8” rear end. Mr Teets spent the next 4 years locating the correct missing pieces and parts and refurbished the car with completion in 2014. It currently has a 390 dated coded 11/68 with correct heads, intake, carb, air cleaner, snorkel etc and a 4 speed Toploader mated to a correct 9” rear end. Engine was built by well known Denver machine shop Ridge Reamer at .030 over with hardened seats for unleaded gas. This car was completely rust free when body and paint was done by Mustang restoration shop Boss Auto Designs also in Denver. Original floor pans still show factory primer.

The Marti report shows it came from the factory with:

390 4v engine

4 speed manual transmission

3.25 standard rear axle ratio

Royal Maroon paint

Standard black interior

GT Equipment Group

Power Disc Brakes

Power Steering

Tilt Away Steering Column

AM Radio

Tinted Glass

This car has been lightly driven to car shows and for ice cream runs. It’s a sweetheart to drive and I wouldn’t hesitate to take it on a road trip. The front seats with headrests were added prior to Mr Teets ownership. The drivers side headrest has some cracking as shown in the pics. The tilt away steering column is currently not functional and it has a non original Ford am/fm 8 track and non original Pertronix ignition replacing traditional points. Everything else on the car is in excellent condition and shows extremely well.

Car is located in Denver. I can forward more pictures and answer questions as requested. Contact me via call, text or email at 303-519-5242 or [email protected]. Comes with a Deluxe Marti report, framed car show information board and art easel, 4 non GT center wheel caps, car cover, numerous 3 ring binders of paperwork, receipts and photos dating back to the 70’s and a signed and numbered hardcopy of Paul Newitt’s 2011 GT/CS Recognition Guide. Price is $58,000.

I’ve seen this car in person. Bob did an amazing job on the restoration. Good luck with the sale Dan.

Wondering what the price difference would be if the original #'s matching drive train was there? $58k seems low for a big block IMO.

Dan, I am in the process of selling off some of my dad's belongings. It's a tough thing to do! Good luck with the sale, someone will get an amazing car! I'm in central Illinois if there's anything I can help with!

Had 2 people contact me is all. Sold it to a local gentlemen who has a number of Mustangs including a couple Shelby’s. I came down to $56k on it which I felt was fair for both of us. Market has been getting a bit soft in my opinion based on cars I’ve watched the last few years. Tough to see it drive away but I still have the K code convertible my Dad left me that my wife loves to drive plus what some folks ( not anybody reading this) might think is too many cars already. 😎

Fast and sweet! Probably the best way for it to go. Still seems cheap to me. I'd like some of the experts, which certainly excludes me, to chime in on the value. How much did it hurt the price because the original drive train was gone? AKA matching #'s.

There are a lot of GT/CS cars that have been on the market for a long time and still haven't sold.
I think the pricing was perfect for that car.

I see this car as a significant car in the GT/CS some may not think so. But for me as a kid I remember looking at 90's mustang magazines that would be trying to sale the 89 GT/CS Guide in the advertisement areas. It is one of the most documented cars just based on Paul's books. I believe he claimed that the body had over 400K miles on it. He stated the car's 390 was replaced in the earlier 70's like many other Big Block cars. I spoke to Bob in 2011 about this car and Paul gathered Driveline (axle & Trans) and Block with the production dates around a April 16th car. I never was provided photo's verification of dates on any of them. I was only provide photos of what was part of the purchase from Paul. Bob was on the fence of restoring it or selling it. I believe he offered it to me in 2011 for 26K.

It is up to the buyer to do their homework. But if this car was restored with a period correct engine and driveline that is the next best thing to #'s matching in my eyes. I think this was a fair price on this car with this history. Today's market is challenging the most recent (Bring A Trailer & Mecum) cars didn't bring the numbers I thought they would.

@DanTeets I know this is hard thing to sale. I enjoy seeing your CO Mountain Terrain CS pictures for the Calendar every year. I am glade it went to someone local. I hope you can visit the car anytime and maybe drive it.
