AM Radio, speakers configuration possible

My car had an aftermarket radio added below the original AM radio.

I'm just looking to restore it back to original. Duals aftermarket speakers were added on the rear tray also.

I want to confirm the original speaker set-up when car was delivered with just an AM radio. There is one in the front (underdash, center). Reading in a book kind of indicates that none in the back came with the AM radio. Do I understand right?

Was there an option possible for rear speakers on AM radio. If yes, is there a balance knob on the radio for that?

If that configuration didn't exist, I'll be removing theses speakers and I'd have to find a new rear shelf cover, any clue where to find these?

To the best of my understanding if your car came with an AM radio you would not have had any rear speakers. Mine didn't. The rear tray will not have any speakers holes cut in it and no fader or balance knob was needed or installed.
You would only have the speaker in the dash.
New rear tray panels are easily found at any of the mustang parts dealers.

I beleive the AM radio only has the one front speaker. Rear package trays are easy to come by.........got mine from Mustangs Unlimited in CT.
