1968 Confirmation of California Special Trunk Lid

Hello everyone,
I have a project car in which I need a trunk lid, recently I purchased this one which I "believe" is correct / original ford trunk. Looking for members input and confirmation. It is fiberglass top and bottom. It has numbers in the fiberglass under the trunk latch striker: C7Zb_65 ?? I will try to post some pictures

Can anyone verify that they have numbers stamped below the striker in the tailgate as shown in the picture. I think that is what is throwing off the person I am working with that is very knowledgeable on these trunk lids.

Never seen one like that before - raised corners, bare chopper gun fiberglass..... Number of features different from the production deck lids I have and have pictures of

Wonder who made it and when since its a coupe/convertible rather than fastbacks that were reproduced first as aftermarket pieces

None of the originals I have show a number or set of numbers in that location. Interesting that who ever made the mold looks like that made it using an Aug inner section from a steel trunk lid since it shows Cleveland as the stamping plant. Don't know that I've ever seen fiberglass parts from that stamping plant. Anyone else?

I'll try to get some picture of a old original I have at the shop. I should have look closer, the picture of the bottom shows how sloppy the holes were cut around the structure. Jeff nice catch on the stamping.

Have you mounted in on the car? If so how does it fit?

I don't believe it's original for a couple of reasons. The fiberglass trunk lids weren't made by Ford, so there would be no reason to have a Ford number. I've had two lids in my possession at one time, and neither had numbers in them. While it's been a while, I don't remember mine having the center reinforcement brace that runs front to back in the center. Also, the fiberglass doesn't look like the correct texture.

Here are a few more pictures of a original in my stach. Truly there are many differences as mentioned above Including the hinge mounting points. I am sorry for my earlier hasty judgement. I am curious where this lid came from. Whom ever made it was pretty good.

Here are photos of the lid in question, a GT/CS lid, and a '67 coupe lid.

It looks to me like Ford, or someone, may have used a standard '67/'68 deck lid and added a fiberglass outer skin.

Several years ago, 20 plus, I had to have my trunk lid replaced and one was ordered from Tony Branda and it had the center brace in it. With the third brace in it, it doesn't seem to bow as much over the years. The original had a bow as much as 2 inches plus in the center. The one I have you can see the patter of the fiber glass in it, where the originals are somewhat smooth. So maybe the same happened to this one. They just used the frame braces and put fiber glass over them.

I'd attach a photo, but I'm currently having the engine compartment repainted, and while that's going on having them detail the engine while it's out. The engine compartment panel paint had spider cracks on both sides. Plus the hood had a crack in the paint a couple inches in front of the hood lock. So having that taken care of also.
