1968 Idiot Light Oil Pressure Sender

My J code CS has the factory tach and therefore, an idiot light for the oil pressure. It does have the 4" extension that comes out of the block that the little sender screws into. That extension, I believe, is to allow room for the much larger sending unit for cars with an oil pressure gauge. Technically, I think there is enough room by the oil filter for the small sender to not need the extension.

Question is, did all 302s have the extension installed or is it "incorrect" to have it for the smaller sender?
