Some of us may remember back in the 60s and 70s there was a National Councel of Mustang Clubs. They were backed by Ford and helped get many clubs started including our Lincoln NE. club in 1965. They sponsored Mustang rallye month each April.
A few years ago a freind and I went to a salavage yard to get a rear axel for his 66 Mustang. We found a 66 GT that still had one. After geting it out I was looking over the car and found this dash plaque on the glove box door. I thought it was a cool bit of Mustang history. Do any of you have any memorabilia or experiences with them? Marty

...In 1978, I was a member of "Heavy Horses Mustang Association" which held monthly Saturday night meetings in the lobby of Suburban Ford in Roseville, CA. It was a very spirited club fully supported by the dealership with about two-dozen cars including Bosses, R-code Machs, my S-code GT/CS and a myriad of restomod Stangs. We had really cool jackets, patches, plaques and did many cruises and rallyes in the NorCal region. Cruising "American Graffiti style" was still very big then and club pride & honor was huge! However, going into the 1980's and introduction of the newer models meant eventual dis-association of sponsored support regarding "60's technology and the club fell out of favor for not being excited about early-'80's cars... I don't recall if we were a part of the National Counsel, but your find sure brings back memories :)

I wish I could relate...I've got the only Mustang in town? JK ;-)

I do have a really nice book to show others what they look like though!

When I was stationed at Fort Ord, CA, in 68-70 and after I purchased my Special, I belonged to a mustang club out of Salinas, called the Green Gold Mustang Club. We participated in many road ralleyes and cruises around the Monterey Bay and Salinas Valley areas; even had a track run on Laguna Seca. The club was part of the hundreds of Mustangs which cruised from San Francisco to Sears Point which was, I believe, organized by the NCoMC of California. That was an event! There were still mustangs in Candlestick Park when the first mustang arrived on the otherside of Golden Gate bridge.
There was a Drive-In in Salinas (I think it was called Mel's, but I'm not sure) where we would cruise to after some of our meetings held at the local Ford dealership. I think I have some of the dash plaques packed away somewhere - I'm somewhat of a pack rat. The Ford Dealer was really supportive of the club; once the dealer-rep for the club let me borrow a new Mach 1 to make a trip up to San Francisco while my Special was having some work done on it. I think after the 70's the dealer support for the mustang clubs sort of fell by the wayside, but it seems to have picked up again.
Brings back memories.

....I recall one rallye in Woodland, CA in particular. In addition to car show, promo booths, poker run and huge attendance - there was also a pylon obstacle course marked out in a large parking lot. We were timed based on how fast we completed, which also included backing in & out of segments, tight turns and general "rat maze" behavior aside from speed... There were all sorts of hopped up, rubber-burning, open exhaust, gear-jamming drama from all types of musclecars including a Boss 429!
VERY exciting to watch, but wouldn't ya know..... The winner was a Woodland police officer in his Dodge Aspen with an engine you could barely hear and not so much as a "chirp" of the tires! Go figure!........>

What were you thinking letting a Dodge Aspen into the Mustang club? ;-)

Are you nuts he was the police!
Thanks guys for your responces those were really good days. I feel lucky to own some of those old cars today and very much enjoy the fellowship on this site. Some things are the same but different. Just older. Marty

...Like Marty said. He was a city cop in a cop car. A gesture perhaps by the event in good faith. 'Not sure if it was a win/win or a lose/lose, but nonetheless, entertaining. 'Bunch of ego motorheads getting leveled by a 4-door, stock hubcapped, 318 with a driver who understood "inertia management" was better than raw power, flamed paint jobs, smoke and noise ;-)
